As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate, but who will book their spot in the round of 16 in Shanghai?

ATP Shanghai Day 6 Predictions

Daniil Medvedev vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Head-to-head: Medvedev 5-1 Davidovich Fokina

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has a quick opportunity to seek vengeance as he prepares to face Daniil Medvedev for the seventh time. Just days ago in Beijing, Davidovich Fokina fell short against the Russian, losing decisively 6-3 6-3, and now finds himself trailing 5-1 in their overall head-to-head encounters.

Despite having to retire from his semifinal match at the China Open, Medvedev has shown no lingering ill effects and dismantled Dalibor Svrcina in the first round, dropping only two games in the process. Davidovich Fokina has struggled against Medvedev, and with the Russian looking fully recovered and back in top form (or at least something close to it) the trend is likely to continue.

Prediction: Medvedev in 2
Embed from Getty Images

Cameron Norrie vs Learner Tien

Head-to-head: Norrie 1-1 Tien

American teenager Learner Tien is riding a wave of confidence, having recently reached his first ATP final in Beijing, and he now finds himself at a career-high ranking of world #36. He is wearing the Beijing form in Shanghai with two solid comeback wins over Corentin Moutet and Miomir Kecmanovic.

Cameron Norrie, just three spots higher in the rankings, has also shown his mettle on the court, surviving a bagel before winning the tiebreak decider against Arthur Cazaux in the opener. Having already traded wins this season, the third instalment between these two left-handers will be well fought, but it isn’t easy to go against Tien with the way he’s playing.

Prediction: Tien in 3

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Jesper de Jong

Head-to-head: Auger-Aliassime 1-0 de Jong

Felix Auger-Aliassime survived a tricky test against the in-form Alejandro Tabilo, coming out unscathed in a solid 6-3 6-3 win to continue his resurgence on hard courts after also making deep runs in Cincinnati and New York. He will face another tricky encounter against Jesper de Jong, who played the match of his life to upset Jakub Mensik in the previous round. This should be end either quickly or potentially turn into a slugfest. Either way, expect the Canadian to pass this test and book a place in the last 16.

Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 2
Embed from Getty Images

Alexander Zverev vs Arthur Rinderknech

Head-to-head: Zverev 1-0 Rinderknech

Alexander Zverev will look to avenge his shocking exit at Wimbledon when he faces Arthur Rinderknech in Shanghai. The German star lost a gripping five-set encounter against the hard-punching Frenchman, who has emerged as a formidable contender for many players in 2025.

Both players looked assured in their openers, earning straight-set wins to set the stage for another titanic battle on the Shanghai hard courts. Given the conditions, this match should favour Zverev, but it will be a very close one between two players who don’t surrender their serves easily. With the mental edge, I’ll side with the Frenchman to cause another upset.

Prediction: Rinderknech in 3

Main photo credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Action continues on day six at the ATP Shanghai Masters, with eight intriguing matches on the slate in China.
