She can use her superior athleticism to extend the rallies and hit through her powerful backhand. However, the 2020 Australian Open champion’s inconsistency always gives opponents hope. Kudermetova needs to apply pressure by being aggressive and hope Kenin falters in the crucial moments.
Prediction: Kenin in 2

Leylah Fernandez vs Maria Sakkari

Head-to-head: Sakkari 3-0 Fernandez

Fernandez has not won a set in her previous meetings against Sakkari, most recently at the 2024 United Cup. The courts in Melbourne, Washington D.C., and Sydney were all quick to varying degrees. Sakkari overwhelmed the Canadian with her forehand in those conditions. On a slower court, Sakkari’s forehand will have less bite, which might allow Fernandez to win for the first time in this matchup.
Prediction: Fernandez in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Jelena Ostapenko vs Priscilla Hon

Head-to-head: First meeting

Ostapenko has not won more than two matches at any tournament since the French Open nearly three months ago. As with almost all her matches, the Latvian will win comfortably if she plays somewhat well. Hon is a solid player, but the Australian possesses no significant weapons.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 2

Amanda Anisimova vs Katie Boulter

Head-to-head: First meeting

Both women have similar styles based on powerful hitting. Although Boulter will almost certainly have her moments regardless of the final score, Anisimova’s ceiling is higher. The American’s mentality in her first match back since the US Open may be the most essential part of this matchup. How well she reacted to losing the Wimbledon final earlier this year provides hope that the 24-year-old will be okay.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-Imagn Images

It should be a terrific third day of WTA Beijing action.
