Elina Svitolina has announced her decision to end her 2025 season early, sharing her thoughts with fans and the tennis community. In a post on Instagram<\/a>, the Ukrainian tennis star revealed that she hasn\u2019t been feeling like herself, both emotionally and mentally. Stating that she was not not in the right headspace to compete at the level required for the rest of the season and, after reflecting on her situation, decided to step away from the sport temporarily.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t been feeling like myself lately. I\u2019m not in the right emotional space, and I don\u2019t feel ready to play, so I am therefore ending the season here\u201d.<\/p>\n

Svitolina explained that her journey in tennis has taught her that the sport is about much more than just chasing money, fame, or rankings. \u201cIt\u2019s about being ready to fight and give your all,\u201d she shared. \u201cRight now, I\u2019m simply not at the level mentally or emotionally to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot every day has to be productive, strong, or full of energy. Some days are heavy\u2014and that doesn\u2019t make me weak. It just means I\u2019m human and need time to rest, to feel, to breathe and to just be.\u201d She added.<\/p>\n

Svitolina had a strong 2025, ending the year with a record of 35 wins and 14 losses, highlighted by winning the title at the WTA 250 clay tournament in Rouen in April maintaining her excellent record in tour-level finals (which currently stands at 18-4). She also reached the quarterfinals at both the Australian Open and French Open, but struggled to maintain that high standard of play during the hard-court season in North America. After reaching the quarterfinals in Montreal, she was eliminated in her opening match in Cincinnati and subsequently lost in the first round at the US Open to Hungary’s Anna Bondar.<\/p>\n

That defeat proved to be her final match of 2025, with the Ukrainian set to miss the final months of the season before a potential return to action Down Under in early 2026.<\/p>\n
