I took last week off due to the death of one of my pets. I apologize for the absence, but I am back at it now. The action in Korea has been impressive, and the upcoming matches are sure to impress, as well. With all of that out there, let’s take a look at my best bets for WTA Seoul. I will also be changing the way I pick matches very soon, but more on that another time. Here are my best bets for the round of 16 in Korea.

WTA Seoul

Haddad Maia– Seidel: Time 08:30

H2H: 0-0

Beatriz Haddad Maia and Ella Seidel have never met before, but that will change in Seoul. Haddad Maia had been struggling with hardcourt matches before the US Open, as she was 2-13 entering the Major. She’s managed to add four more wins and only one loss since. Seidel has been nothing short of a wrecking ball in her last ten matches, going 8-2, and she’s 13-5 overall on a hardcourt for the year. While she has a bunch of wins on a hardcourt, most of them came during qualifying, while Haddad Maia hasn’t had to “qualify” for a single event this year.

Best Bet to Make

The books have Haddad Maia as a favorite, and I agree with them. Whatever was preventing Haddad Maia from succeeding on a hardcourt before the US Open seems to have been addressed. Her consistency and her overall play have improved, and the results show it. Haddad Maia has always had the talent; she was just getting in her own way. I expect Seidel to give Haddad Maia a challenge, but I think the skill differential between the two will ultimately be the difference maker.

That being said, Haddad Maia winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Haddad Maia winning @1.73 @Bet365

Shnaider – Lamens: Time 07:00

H2H: 1-0

Diana Shnaider and Suzen Lamens have only met once before, and that match was a see-saw affair that saw Shnaider beat Lamens in three sets after a wild second set, including a tiebreak in the final game of the second set. That match took place in the quarterfinals at the 2024 WTA Hong Kong tournament. Shnaider enters the match having gone 6-4 in her last ten matches. Lamens enters at 5-5 in her last ten matches. Lamens has no tournament victory this year, but Shnaider took home the prize at WTA Monterrey back in August.

Best Bet to Make

The books have Shnaider as a sizable favorite in this match, and I agree. In fact, I’m going to give you a prop bet for this one. 1xBet is offering Shnaider 2:0 for 1.85, and that’s easily the best available prop bet for this match. There are few over/under bets that might be appealing to some folks. You can always look at O/U on 2.5 sets or 20.5 games, if you think that this one is going three sets. I think Shnaider took her foot off the gas in the second set, and she paid the price. So, I think she’s going to stay focused the entire match, and she will take it in straight sets this time.

That being said, Shnaider winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Shnaider winning 2:0 @1.85 @1xBet

Krejcikova – Raducanu: Time 12:30

H2H: 0-0

Emma Raducanu and Barbora Krejcikova will meet for the first time in Seoul. Krejcikova hasn’t played in many tournaments this year. She’s only 13-7 on the entire year. This will be her 21st match of the year! By contrast, Raducanu has played in 21 matches since June! Raducanu has more wins than Krejcikova has matches played at 27-18 overall. That said, Krejcikova is coming off a quarterfinal appearance at the US Open and a round of 16 performance in Cincinnati, and she was injured for the first half of the year.

Best Bet to Make

The books have Raducanu as the favorite by about .5 points, and I couldn’t disagree more. Krejcikova is 8-2 in her last ten matches entering her match with Raducanu. She might not have much playing time this year, but she’s been making her impact felt when she does play. Raducanu is all over the place and has been all year. She’ll win three and then lose two. When she’s faced better opposition, they traditionally beat her. I think this is a case where Raducanu is catching Krejcikova at the wrong time, and Krejcikova will win.

That being said, Krejcikova winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Krejcikova winning @2.3 @Bet365

Main Photo Credit: Jayne Kamin-USA TODAY Sports

The round of 16 has begun at the WTA Seoul Open.
