Jannik Sinner squashed any concerns over his fitness<\/a> with a commanding win in his first round match against Vit Kopriva, 6-1 6-1 6-2.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old Italian and World #1 is the defending champion and will need to reach further than Carlos Alcaraz if both reach the third round to retain his top ranking<\/a> at the end of the US Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n

First Set<\/h3>\n

The first set had an interesting start and end, with a pretty one sided affair in the between. Sinner started the match with a sublime backhand down the line winner before proceeding to hit some uncharacteristic unforced errors in the first game. Once he held his serve, Kopriva gifted him multiple games by double faulting five times in the first set itself.<\/p>\n

Sinner looked settled for the majority of the set but had some trouble to close out the set as Kopriva battled back to deuce after being 1-5 0-40 down. Sinner however blasted a timely ace and sealed the set 6-1 which lasted a mere 31 minutes.<\/p>\n

Second Set<\/h3>\n

Kopriva did increase his average serve speed on both first and second serve compared to the first set where he was averaging a shocking sub hundred miles per hour.<\/p>\n

However, it amounted to nothing as Sinner dished out more pain for the Czech from the baseline and giving Kopriva absolutely no chance on his serve.<\/p>\n

Sinner broke serve for the fifth time in the match to close out the set 6-1 in just 30 minutes.<\/p>\n
