Predicting this set of matches are Yesh Ginsburg, Zain Mustafa, and Ilemona Onekutu. Who do you think will advance?

US Open Day 2 Men’s Predictions

Tristan Boyer vs James Duckworth

Yesh:
A decade ago, I had high hopes for the Australian. That never really panned out. He’s solid enough, but a journeyman at best. Boyer is still rising but has real potential. I think the American is poised for a breakout right now.
Prediction: Boyer in 3

Zain:
Tristan Boyer takes on James Duckworth in a battle where experience and consistency favor the Australian. Duckworth’s serve and forehand patterns should allow him to dictate enough rallies and keep Boyer under pressure.
Prediction: Duckworth in 4

Ilemona:
Boyer is just beginning to make his way at this level, showing glimpses of promise but lacking sustained results. Duckworth’s serve and attacking mindset usually translate well to quicker surfaces, even if injuries have slowed his progress in recent years. That extra experience could prove key in this matchup.
Prediction: Boyer in 5

Joao Fonseca vs Miomir Kecmanovic

Yesh:
Fonseca has taken steps back way too many times this year, given his raw talent. I think Kecmanovic has both the power to stick with the Brazilian and the variety to frustrate him. Fonseca hasn’t quite adjusted to the pro Tour yet and it shows.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 4

Zain:
Joao Fonseca meets Miomir Kecmanovic in a matchup of raw talent versus established consistency. Fonseca’s explosive game and shot-making ability could make this a thriller. If he manages his nerves and sustains his aggression, the teenager has the weapons to pull off the win.
Prediction: Fonseca in 4

Ilemona:
Fonseca has been making waves with his fearless hitting and recent rise, giving him momentum heading into New York. Kecmanovic has had a difficult season and hasn’t found much rhythm on hard courts. If Fonseca keeps his composure, this could be another step forward in his breakthrough run.
Prediction: Fonseca in 4

Embed from Getty Images

Chun-hsin Tseng vs Zizou Bergs

Yesh:
I’m not sure this will be particularly close. Bergs just does everything better than Tseng, and he has more rhythm and confidence, too. This might be a blowout.
Prediction: Bergs in 3

Zain:
Tseng Chun-hsin faces Zizou Bergs in what should be an entertaining contest. Tseng’s consistency and defense will test the Belgian, but Bergs brings more attacking options, which should ultimately tip the balance in his favor.
Prediction: Bergs in 4

Ilemona:
Tseng’s baseline consistency has helped him find patches of success, though he’s still searching for a big run on hard courts. Bergs brings more aggression to the table and has shown flashes of strong form this season. This one has the makings of a tight battle if both players find their range.
Prediction: Bergs in 3

Andrey Rublev vs Dino Prizmic

Yesh:
Prizmic is a rising talent and Rublev has been mercurial (to put it lightly) this year. This match definitely has upset potential, but ultimately Rublev has too much talent to count on it at the moment.
Prediction: Rublev in 3

Zain:
Andrey Rublev begins his campaign against Dino Prizmic. The young Croatian has shown promise, but Rublev’s relentless baseline power and experience at this level should see him through despite some likely resistance.
Prediction: Rublev in 4

Ilemona:
Rublev comes in with confidence after reaching the quarterfinals in both Toronto and Cincinnati, finding some of his best ball-striking of the season. Prizmic is one of the brightest young names coming through, though most of his success so far has come on clay. With Rublev settled into form on hard courts, the experience gap looms large in this matchup.
Prediction: Rublev in 3

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The first round of the US Open continues on Day 2 on Monday.
