Several players have stepped up under the spotlight, stringing together big performances against more established names. It’s the kind of stage where confidence and rhythm can level the playing field, even when experience tips the scale the other way. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate. But who will book their place in the semifinals?

ATP Toronto Quarterfinal Predictions

Alex Michelsen vs Karen Khachanov

Head-to-Head: Michelsen 1–0 Khachanov

Alex Michelsen has found his groove in Toronto, coming through some tense moments and showing off his versatility from the baseline. He’s handled big hitters and long rallies well, and his calmness under pressure has stood out. Karen Khachanov, by contrast, has made light work of his route to the quarters, striking the ball cleanly and playing with the kind of aggression that makes him a real threat on hard courts. Michelsen did upset him at the Australian Open earlier this year, a match where his ability to absorb pace and stay composed on the big points made the difference. That result adds an interesting layer to this one, especially given how much confidence the American is playing with right now. If he keeps returning well and extends rallies, he might just turn this into another grind — and he’s been winning those all week.

Prediction: Michelsen in 3

Alexander Zverev vs Alexei Popyrin

Head-to-Head: Zverev 3–0 Popyrin

Embed from Getty Images

Alexander Zverev has looked focused and in control, using his serve and backhand to good effect without expending too much energy in his first few matches. He’s been tested in moments, but hasn’t looked rattled. Alexie Popyrin, meanwhile, has put together one of the best runs of his season, backing up a strong win over Daniil Medvedev with a composed performance in the last round. He’s played the big points with real clarity, especially on serve, and looks sharp in extended rallies too. Zverev has the 3-0 head-to-head edge, but all their previous meetings came in different conditions and earlier stages of their development. If Popyrin keeps serving well and steps inside the baseline more, this could be a closer contest than it looks on paper but the top seed should still have too much for his opponent here.

Prediction: Zverev in 2

Main Photo Credit: Syndication: The Enquirer

The Toronto quarterfinals feature a mix of momentum and muscle, with a couple of matchups that wouldn’t have been predicted at the start of the week.
