Today’s best bets segment includes a mix of matches from the first and second round of action. The feature match for these picks is Marie Bouzkova vs Diana Shnaider, a meeting of two top-40 players in the world rankings. Let me know in the comment section if you agree with my picks.

WTA Montreal Open

Lamens – Haddad-Maia: Time 11:30

H2H: 1-0

Suzan Lamens and Beatriz Haddad-Maia kick off our best bets coverage. Lamens enters the match on a two-match winning streak, including a win over Pauline Kudermetova in Montreal. Haddad-Maia is coming off a back-and-forth grass season and has struggled on hardcourt this year. Her best showing was the Australian Open, where she notched two wins prior to being ousted in the third round. Lamens has done slightly better on hardcourt this year, but only by the slimmest of margins.

Best Bet to Make

Haddad-Maia enters as the favorite on the back of her overall hardcourt record at 222-119. By contrast, Lamens is 89-71 on hardcourt, and only 9-7 in 2025. Haddad-Maia is 2-9, but history tends to indicate that she will turn it around on her preferred surface. There’s little reason to think Haddad-Maia shouldn’t pull this off. She’s a favorite by nearly .75, so the books believe that Montreal is the starting point of her turning it around on hardcourt. I’ll take Haddad-Maia in three.

That being said, Haddad-Maia winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Haddad-Maia winning @1.64 @Betfair

Bouzkova – Shnaider: Time 21:30

H2H: 1-1

Diana Shnaider and Marie Bouzkova have split their only two meetings. Shnaider took the 2024 meeting on grass in Birmingham while Bouzkova took the hardcourt semifinal matchup in 2023. Bouzkova enters the match playing some of her best tennis. She won the Livesport Prague Open two days ago and is riding a six-match winning streak. Shnaider is 5-5 in her last ten matches and is also having a .500 sorta year in the overall sense. She’s 19-17 in overall in 2025, and she’s 63-40 on hardcourt. Bouzkova is 11-5 on hardcourt this year, and she’s 254-127 overall.

Best Bet to Make

I do not understand why Shnaider is the favorite in this match. She’s not playing well at the moment, and not only is Bouzkova playing well, but she’s also playing on her preferred surface, on which she’s also playing well in 2025. It seems like someone just randomly decided Shnaider had the sauce entering this match against all available evidence. I understand the concept of a letdown following a tournament victory, but that assumes there must be a letdown. People have strong periods of tennis every year, and we may be in Bouzkova’s strong stretch. I’m certainly not picking against her until the evidence suggests I should.

That being said, Bouzkova winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Bouzkova winning @2.2 @Betway

Kudermetova – Danilovic: Time 20:00

H2H: 1-0

Both Veronika Kudermetova and Olga Danilovic enter Montreal coming off a 5-5 stretch in their last ten matches. Danilovic has one lower-level tournament victory in 2025, and that came at WTA Antalya 2, which she followed up with a finals loss in the following tournament at WTA Rouen. Kudermetova has two quarterfinal appearances on the year, but has otherwise been very middle-of-the-pack with her tennis. At least Kudermetova has an overall record of 199-138 on hardcourt when compared to Danilovic’s 52-41 career hardcourt record.

Best Bet to Make

The books have Kudermetova taking this match, and I mostly agree with this. She is the more experienced player on hardcourt, and that should be enough to prevail despite her struggles this year. She has multiple victories in at least five tournaments on hardcourt this year. Danilovic has only one more than one match in a single hardcourt tournament this year, and that took place back in January. Give me Kudermetova, but make it in three sets.

That being said, Kudermetova winning is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/ the best odds: Kudermetova winning @2.15 @Unibet

Main Photo Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The action during the opening rounds of the WTA Montreal has been thoroughly entertaining.
