It’s time for round of 16 action at ATP Kitzb\u00fchel. The ATP is holding events in three different countries, and that doesn’t even count the Davis Cup action also happening. Here are my picks for the two available round of 16 matches, at the time of writing. Let me know if you agree with my picks in the comments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

ATP Kitzb\u00fchel Open<\/b><\/h2>\n

Rinderknech \u2013 Gombos: Time 10:00<\/b><\/h4>\n

H2H: 0-0<\/b><\/p>\n

Arthur Rinderknech and Norbert Gombos will meet for the first time in Austria. Gombos seems to be back on a winning track after having a few down years in 2023-24. Rinderknech is having the opposite year, currently boasting nine more losses than wins at 15-24 overall. Gombos is the more experienced clay player at 333-214 while Rinderknech is only 112-83 overall. He’s a generalized player with experience on all surfaces, but not standing out on any of them. He did make the quarterfinal here in Austria back in 2023 and the semifinal in ’21, so expect him to be well up to the challenge of taking out Gombos.<\/p>\n

Best Bet to Make<\/b><\/p>\n

The books have Rinderknech as the favorite, and it’s because he’s so experienced in Austria. With a quarterfinal and a semifinal to his name, they figure it’s more than enough to make up for the fact that he’s 6-9 on clay in 2025. I do not agree with their enthusiasm, but I do agree with the pick. Rinderknech is having a rough year, and Gombos is almost exclusively playing clay tournaments. As well as Gombos is doing, it’s almost exclusively at a lower level. Rinderknech is going to win, but it’s going to be sloppy and ugly.<\/p>\n

That being said, Rinderknech<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>winning is a value bet for sure.<\/b><\/p>\n

Shevchenko \u2013 Fucsovics: Time 10:00<\/b><\/h4>\n

H2H: 2-1<\/b><\/p>\n

Alexander Shevchenko and Marton Fucsovics have a solid rivalry. Having met once a year since 2023, the pair has yet to have a three-set match. Shevchenko has two wins, one on clay and one on hardcourt. Fucsovics’ win came on a hardcourt in 2024 at Cincinnati. Neither man has ever made it past the first round in Austria, so this is already a first for both men. Fucsovics has had a nice year, including one tournament victory. Shevchenko is having a decent year, but Fucsovics is clearly having the more successful and consistent year.<\/p>\n

Best Bet to Make<\/b><\/p>\n

The books have Fucsovics winning, and I absolutely agree. Fucsovics is already having a solid 2025. He’s 32-15 overall and 7-3 in his last ten matches. He’s also consistently playing in higher-level tournaments as compared to Shevchenko, who is playing more lower-level tournaments. The only times of the year when Shevchenko has reached a quarterfinal or a semifinal were lower-level tournaments. The Hungarian is keen to place himself back among the top 50 in men’s tennis, and another solid outing on clay could do just that.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That being said, Fucsovics<\/strong> <\/span>winning is a value bet for sure.<\/b><\/p>\n
