It will run as a joint ATP\/WTA 500-level tournament from July 21st to 27th.\u00a0This year, five Grand Slam champions will feature in the women&#8217;s draw while the men&#8217;s field will boast five Top 10 players. The excitement is building as preparations for the final Grand Slam of the season at the US Open begin in earnest in the nation&#8217;s capital. On that note, let us take a look at the eight confirmed wild cards for this year&#8217;s tournament.<\/p>\n<h2>Citi Open: Eight Players Receive Washington Wild Cards<\/h2>\n<h4>Men&#8217;s wild cards<\/h4>\n<p>The men&#8217;s field will have a 48-player singles draw. That includes five wild cards. The first wild card is world #8 Holger Rune. The Dane surprisingly lost in the opening round of Wimbledon and will make his second appearance at the event and has made the late decision to feature in the field in D.C.<\/p>\n<p>The second men&#8217;s wild card at the Citi Openn is former British #1 Dan Evans. The 35-year-old veteran won his biggest career title in Washington two years ago, but missed his title defense last year after committing to play doubles with his friend Andy Murray at the Olympics in the Scotsman swansong.<\/p>\n<p>Mackenzie McDonald has been named the third wild card. The 30-year-old American enjoyed one of the best weeks of his career in this tournament four years ago when he reached the final losing to Jannik Sinner in three sets. The fourth wild card is American rising star Ethan Quinn. The 21-year-old made his top 100 debut last month. He has won a career-best 34 matches this season. A further wild card is due to be named ahead of the draw ceremony.<\/p>\n<h4>Women&#8217;s wild cards<\/h4>\n<p>The women&#8217;s draw will contain 32 singles players with an American-dominated wild card list. The biggest wild card headliner is seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus Williams. The former world #1 turned 45 last month and will play in her first tournament in over a year. The second wild card entrant is four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka. She won three of her seven career titles on US soil, although her only appearance in Washington was in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>World #66 Danielle Collins is making her second appearance in Washington. The 31-year-old needed a wild card to participate in the draw and will be hoping to pick up her first win at the event. The fourth and final wild card is local favorite Hailey Baptiste.
