He put Alcaraz on his back foot for a majority of the final three sets, crushing the ball off both wings and coming to the net 40 times.

Sinner becomes the first Italian to raise the singles title at The Championships and is now a Roland Garros triumph away from becoming the sixth man to win all four Grand Slams in the Open Era.

Sinner claims his maiden Wimbledon title

Alcaraz overcomes early break

Both men seemed a bit nervy to start, leading to four opening holds of serve. In the fifth game of the first set, Sinner scored the first break of the match with a few blistering winners from the baseline. The Italian went on to consolidate, holding a 4-2 lead.

Not to be outdone, Alcaraz followed up a hold at 2-4 with a relatively straightforward break of serve to even the first set at 4-4. The Spaniard held for 5-4, forcing Sinner, who was up 4-2 mere minutes ago, to hold to stay in the first set.

After a back-and-forth tenth game, Alcaraz did what Alcaraz does.

Carlos Alcaraz takes the first set against Jannik Sinner after this spectacular point 😱 pic.twitter.com/NVdA0wslbK

— ESPN (@espn) July 13, 2025

Sinner bounces back

After a first set in which he drew first blood, you could only wonder how Sinner’s mental would hold up given his recent bouts with the Spaniard. However, Sinner quashed any thoughts of him fading away with a break in the first game of the second set.

Unlike the first set, the Italian did not give this one back.

Sinner showed a strong sense of urgency in the second set, pumping his fist and emitting much more emotion than we typically see from the World No. 1. He won 73 percent of his second serve points in the set and was able to thwart off Alcaraz’s sole break point opportunity.

Sinner kept his foot on the gas in the third, quickly amassing a double break point in the first game of the set. The Spaniard, however, was able to dig deep with a few first serves to begin the set with a much-needed hold of serve.

Embed from Getty Images

Both players held their first four service games of the third set without facing a break point. Although both men had seemingly found their footing, it was the Italian who was dictating most of the points. Alcaraz’s dropshot was average at best, and Sinner’s aggression from the baseline was pushing him off the court.

With Alcaraz serving at 4-4 in the third set, Sinner upped the aggression in hopes of taking a stronghold on the match.

The Italian pounded a 30-30 second serve, setting up a short-ball forehand winner and a break point. He capitalized with a beautiful inside-out forehand, inside-in forehand, open-court volley sequence to seal the break. A straightforward hold of serve put him one set away from his maiden Wimbledon title.

Sinner pounded seven aces and won 84 percent of his first-serve points in the third set. The Italian was playing the better tennis of the two, but could he hold on?

A drama-filled fourth

Each player began the fourth set with a straightforward hold of serve, but it was Sinner who struck first. Up 2-1, he was four service holds away from glory.

Sinner was the more confident player in the fourth set, seemingly putting his Paris demons behind him. But with the Italian serving at 4-3, Alcaraz found an opening. A bevy of unforced errors from Sinner gave Alcaraz double break point and an opening back into this match.

Embed from Getty Images

The following four points are where the World No. 1 won The Championships.

Sinner hit two phenomenal second serves and continued to pound the ball cross-court, forcing four consecutive errors from the Spaniard.

Alcaraz asked Sinner to serve out the match, but unlike in Paris, the Italian did not blink.

Carlos Alcaraz takes the first set against Jannik Sinner after this spectacular point 😱 pic.twitter.com/NVdA0wslbK

— ESPN (@espn) July 13, 2025

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke – Imagn Images

Jannik Sinner reigns supreme at Wimbledon.
