No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz, hunting his third consecutive Wimbledon title, squares off against No. 14 seed Andrey Rublev. Offering their insight and prediction are Yesh Ginsburg, Tope Oke, and Shane Black. But who will advance to the quarterfinals?

Wimbledon Day 7 Men’s Predictions

Cameron Norrie vs Nicolas Jarry

Yesh
Jarry is playing really well right now. But Norrie is a better player, more natural on grass, and finally looks comfortable on court again for the first time in a few years.
Prediction: Norrie in 3

Tope
For the first time in his career, Nicolas Jarry has deployed apt weapons on grass, making an unexpected run to the round of 16. This is perhaps where his run ends against the resilient Brit, Norrie, who knows how to repel the big serves and who has the crowd behind him.
Prediction: Norrie in 5

Shane
What a resurgence it has been for the Brit at SW19. Norrie comes into this match playing great tennis, brimming with confidence after a second-round win over Tiafoe. Jarry strikes the ball very well, and his serve lends itself to free points. However, the unorthodox style of Norrie, paired with the crowd support, will lead him into the quarters.
Prediction: Norrie in 5

Karen Khachanov vs Kamil Majchrzak

Yesh
What an incredible run this has been for Kamil Majchrzak. He is playing the best tennis of his career, plus a little luck for a life-changing run. Khachanov hasn’t been at his best, but overall, the Russian is too good.
Prediction: Khachanov in 4

Tope
Kamil Majchrzak is one of the biggest surprises of SW19 after returning from injury to make it to this stage for the first time in his career. I like the Pole to record his first win over Khachanov. The Russian has struggled over the line in the last two matches, and fatigue says he may not be third time lucky.
Prediction: Majchrzak in 5

Shane
Majchrzak has played terrific tennis to reach the fourth round. The 29-year-old is playing the best tennis of his career and has the chance to beat Khachanov. The No. 17 seed has had previous success at Wimbledon but has looked vulnerable this tournament. I’ll take the upset in a tight five sets.
Prediction: Majchrzak in 5

Embed from Getty Images

Taylor Fritz vs Jordan Thompson

Yesh
Taylor Fritz has been playing well in this tournament, though you wouldn’t guess it by his scorelines. He’s playing consistently and gaining confidence from the baseline, getting some good rhythm in against solid grass-court players. He faces another one, but shouldn’t have much trouble.
Prediction: Fritz in 3

Tope
At peak form and fitness, Jordan Thompson is capable of upsetting Fritz in this one, and he has won their solitary encounter on grass. Difficult stab, but I’ll take one on the Australian to dig deep and add to the litany of upsets in this year’s event.
Prediction: Thompson in 5

Shane
Fritz has faced the toughest draw of any men’s player up until this point. Although Thompson has a quirky style of play that can give people fits, the American seems to be on a crash course to the semis.
Prediction: Fritz in 4

Carlos Alcaraz vs Andrey Rublev

Yesh
Carlos Alcaraz has not been anywhere near his best at all this tournament. Andrey Rublev definitely has the game and power to capitalize on it if the Spaniard can’t find his form. At some point, though, Alcaraz has earned the benefit of the doubt. You have to expect him to find that extra gear.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 4

Tope
Andrey Rublev has made it to the second week of Majors for the 16th time in his career and will always pose a serious threat, especially on grass. The defending champ cannot afford to be passive in this one as he’s been in the previous rounds. That being said, trust the Spaniard to raise his game as he’s always done to continue his title defence for the second time
Prediction: Alcaraz in 4

Shane
When in form (like he currently is), Rublev plays some scintillating tennis on the grass. He should be able to trouble the two-time defending champion with pure power, but the variety and speed of Alcaraz will be enough to offset the No. 14 seed.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 4

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke – Imagn Images

The Wimbledon Round of 16 begins on Sunday with four scintillating matches featuring top seeds and a few unlikely participants.
