But who will advance to Round 3?

Wimbledon Day 4 Women’s Predictions

Xinyu Wang vs Zeynep Sonmez

Manan
Wang has impressed one and all with her performances on the grass in recent times. She had a good run when she made it to the 4th round last year at Wimbledon, and also recently reached the final of the Berlin event. Her opponent Sonmez should not be much of a threat, as Sonmez has struggled to make it past the qualifiers in most grass events.
Prediction: Wang in 2

Jordan
Wang is capable of a deep run at Wimbledon. She has beaten Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff, and Karolina Muchova on grass in the last 12 months and was the runner-up at the Berlin Open. Sonmez’s only hope of causing an upset is Wang being well below her best.
Prediction: Wang in 2

Shane
Wang has shown some terrific tennis on the grass. She has the firepower to beat the best in the sport. Sonmez did well to get past Cristian in Round 1, but this is where her Wimbledon experience comes to an end.
Prediction: Wang in 2

Katie Volynets vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto

Manan
Volynets might struggle against her Italian opponent in this Round 2 matchup. Cocciaretto has a well-rounded game for grass, whereas Volynets struggles with her accuracy on the surface.
Prediction: Cocciaretto in 2

Jordan
Observing how Cocciaretto, who is often inconsistent, responds after beating Jessica Pegula will be fascinating. Volynets’ style is entirely different from Pegula’s, and Cocciaretto will consistently be the aggressor against her gritty opponent. Something tells me that the Italian could get caught out by Volynets’ fighting qualities in this one.
Prediction: Volynets in 3

Shane
This is an under-the-radar, fun match on Day 4 of Wimbledon. Cocciaretto is coming off a terrific victory over Pegula. Look for her to parlay that confidence into an aggressive approach against Volynets. The American won’t make it easy, as she will fight tooth and nail, but the current form of Cocciaretto is hard to pick against.
Prediction: Cocciaretto in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Sofia Kenin vs Jessica Bouzas Manerio

Manan
The grass has never been kind to Kenin. It’s her weakest surface, as she has never advanced past the fourth round of Wimbledon in her career. However, she should be backed to prevail in this encounter, as her opponent, Bouzas Manerio, also has struggles with injuries and the surface.
Prediction: Kenin in 3

Jordan
Kenin will try to dominate rallies with her backhand, while Bouzas Maneiro tries to do the same with her forehand in each match. Predicting Kenin’s contests is never easy because of her inconsistency. If the American plays her best, I doubt Bouzas Maneiro’s backhand will hold up to the pressure.
Prediction: Kenin in 2

Shane
Kenin does not have the best history on grass, but I trust her to raise her level at Slams. She can just as easily play a horrendous match, but I like her to advance past the clay-court specialist.
Prediction: Kenin in 2

Mirra Andreeva vs Lucia Bronzetti

Manan
It was at Wimbledon that Andreeva made herself known to the world back in 2023. She has moved up more than 100 spots in rankings since then, now standing at No. 7, having become a much better player on the slick surface. Bronzetti has been twice a victim of a bagel set in the three matches she has played this year. She has struggled to hold serve on the surface against top players, and the pattern may continue.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Jordan
Andreeva did not need to get out of third gear against Mayar Sherif. The teenager might need to play better against Bronzetti, but I doubt her best tennis will be required. She should progress to the third round pretty comfortably.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Shane
It is hard not to love Andreeva’s game. Her mix of power and aggression can become nearly unplayable, especially on grass. Bronzetti will be thoroughly outclassed.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Main Photo Credit: Robert Deutsch – USA TODAY Sports

The second round at the All England Club wraps up on Day 4 as 16 women look to take the next step to glory. 18-year-old phenom Mirra Andreeva squares off against Lucia Bronzetti in one of the best matches of the day.
