But who will advance to the second round?

Wimbledon Day 2 Men’s Predictions

Roberto Carballes Baena vs Alex de Minaur

Ilemona
De Minaur will try to take time away, while RCB will look to slow things down and rally. Grass favors the Aussie’s quick feet and flat hitting. If the points stay short, he’ll likely stay in control.
Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Damian
De Minaur’s typically extremely solid and while he lost that streak of quarterfinals at Slams, he’s going to beat the players he’s supposed to. Carballes Baena maybe could make things slightly more interesting if not for the fact he’s been out since Rome and his fitness is under a huge question mark. Should be lop-sided.
Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Shane
De Minaur is a dark horse to make a deep run in this event. Carballes Baena does not have much match fitness. The Aussie rolls.
Prediction: de Minaur in 3

Chun-Hsin Tseng vs Aleksandar Vukic

Ilemona
Vukic’s big serve makes him a threat on grass, while Tseng will try to make it about the rallies. The surface should help the Aussie more, especially if he can find early rhythm. Could be decided in a couple of tight sets.
Prediction: Vukic in 3

Damian
It’s not like Vukic has been in any amazing form, but at least getting through the qualifying in Queen’s Club and Eastbourne should give him some momentum. He’s a better grass-court player than Tseng and it’s on his to-do list now to show it. This might not be where the Taiwanese grabs his maiden Grand Slam main draw win.
Prediction: Vukic in 3

Shane
This is Vukic’s best surface. He also has more Slam experience than Tseng. The Aussie rolls.
Prediction: Vukic in 4

Embed from Getty Images

Rinky Hijikata vs David Goffin

Ilemona
Hijikata’s energy could give him a boost, but Goffin’s experience on grass is no small thing. This one could turn into a battle of nerve more than skill. A long one wouldn’t surprise.
Prediction: Goffin in 5

Damian
Goffin hasn’t played since the injury in Madrid, although at least we know he’s relatively fit after appearing in two exhibition matches last week. Hijikata can often get away with stuff on grass and tends to be bothersome on this surface, so he probably has to be the favorite right now. Mostly because of the Belgian lacking rhythm.
Prediction: Hijikata in 4

Shane
I would not be surprised if this one goes over four hours. Both players are solid from the ground, but I like the experience of Goffin to win out.
Prediction: Goffin in 5

Jack Draper vs Sebastian Baez

Ilemona
Baez has been solid this year, but grass isn’t where he does his best work. Draper’s lefty game and comfort on the surface could give him the upper hand. If he starts strong, it might be a quick one.
Prediction: Draper in 3

Damian
Draper won’t be too pleased with his draw (Bublik in the third round, Djokovic in the quarterfinals), but the problems shouldn’t begin here. Baez might be one of the highest-ranked unseeded players in the draw, it’s just not at all about his grass results. He’s not a threat to Draper in these conditions.
Prediction: Draper in 3

Shane
Draper is back at his home Slam after a meteoric rise that has him as the No. 4 seed. Baez does not have the power to contend.
Prediction: Draper in 3

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey – Imagn Images

Day 2 at the Wimbledon Championships marks the start of the second half of the draw, as players begin their main draw campaigns.
