But who will advance to the second round?

Wimbledon Day 2 Men’s Predictions

Marin Cilic vs Raphael Collignon

Ilemona
Cilic is back after a long layoff, and that always brings some uncertainty. Collignon will try to test his legs and timing early on. If the veteran finds his rhythm, though, it could be one-way traffic.
Prediction: Cilic in 4

Damian
Collignon is just coming back after the injury he sustained in Hamburg, seems like this will probably be more about picking up the check and first Wimbledon main draw experience than anything else. Especially as former finalist Cilic still has flashes of his peak game and is a tough opponent to get in the opener.
Prediction: Cilic in 4

Shane
Cilic has Wimbledon success, but his current form is a mystery. That said, Collignon is also coming off an injury. The experience rolls here.
Prediction: Cilic in 3

Pedro Martinez vs George Loffhagen

Ilemona
Loffhagen has the crowd and a game that’s growing. Martinez is steady but not at his best on grass. If the Brit takes his chances, this could swing his way.
Prediction: Loffhagen in 5

Damian
Loffhagen has been injured almost non-stop since the Wimbledon appearance he made two years ago, but he always looks competitive against the top players and seems to be back to his best physically now. Getting one of the best draws in the event is a major opportunity for him and he’s got the tools to take it.
Prediction: Loffhagen in 4

Shane
Martinez prefers the dirt and will be in for a fight against the hometown kid. Loffhagen, while rarely healthy, has a big game that thrives on the grass. The crowd will push him to victory.
Prediction: Loffhagen in 5

Embed from Getty Images

Alex Michelsen vs Miomir Kecmanovic

Ilemona
Both have solid baseline games, but Michelsen’s serve gives him an edge on this surface. Kecmanovic will look to grind, while the American will aim to keep things short and sharp. First-strike tennis might decide it.
Prediction: Michelsen in 4

Damian
Tough one to predict as they’re very close ability-wise and have already split two meetings this season (Michelsen won on clay, Kecmanovic on hard). Grass probably tips the scales a little bit more into the American’s favor, but it’s still all in the execution. Let’s say he does it as Kecmanovic hasn’t won on grass yet this year (but has come close).
Prediction: Michelsen in 5

Shane
Both Michelsen and Kecmanovic are dangerous on this surface. That said, Michelsen’s huge serve is something that will be the difference.
Prediction: Michelsen in 4

Gael Monfils vs Ugo Humbert

Ilemona
This all-French clash promises some flair. Humbert’s been more consistent lately, but Monfils can light up any court when he’s feeling it. If the rallies open up, expect a few highlight-reel moments.
Prediction: Humbert in 5

Damian
Humbert kicked off his first Wimbledon run back in 2019 by defeating Monfils from 0-2 down and he’ll be hoping for a repeat here. Well, maybe not for exactly the same match as this time he’d rather avoid having to erase a deficit. Seems like he should, of the two he’s far more comfortable on grass.
Prediction: Humbert in 4

Shane
Get the popcorn ready. This all-French battle should produce fireworks and a lot of elite shotmaking. Humbert is a terrific grass-court player, and for that reason, I give him the slight edge.
Prediction: Humbert in 5

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane – USA TODAY Sports

Day 2 at the Wimbledon Championships marks the start of the second half of the draw, as players begin their main draw campaigns.
