His Eastbourne debut on Wednesday is one of eight exciting matches on the cards for Day 3. As always, LWOT predicts the upcoming ATP 250 matches, with quarterfinal spots up for grabs.

ATP Eastbourne Day 3 Predictions

Marcos Giron vs Jacob Fearnley

Head-to-head: First meeting

Jacob Fearnley is flying under the radar on tour, and he’s a Brit to watch out for on both these courts and at Wimbledon next week. After a 6-2 6-2 win over No. 5 seed Flavio Cobolli, he’ll be well prepared for this matchup. While Marcos Giron has lost four of his last five matches, he is strong on the grass courts and his lone ATP Tour title last year came on the slippery grass in Newport. Fearnley’s confidence might give him the key advantage in front of supportive fans.
Prediction: Fearnley in 3

James Duckworth vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Head-to-head: First meeting

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is unpredictable, but his agility and all-court skills make him a strong grass court athlete at his best. James Duckworth battled through qualifying in Eastbourne and won his first round match in three sets, but this should be a step up for the Aussie. Duckworth possesses more weapons off his serve and closer to the net, so Davidovich Fokina will have to counter with consistent tennis and serve well himself.
Prediction: Davidovich Fokina in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Jakub Mensik vs Reilly Opelka

Head-to-head: First meeting

Reilly Opelka has produced ups-and-downs this grass court season, as the American is performing better against tougher opposition throughout 2025. He stunned Novak Djokovic in January, and impressed two weeks ago in a 7-6(5) 7-6(5) upset over top seed Daniil Medvedev in the Netherlands. Against a top ranked player again, the American has the weapons and big serve to challenge for an upset. In his still-young career, Jakub Mensik is 3-6 on grass courts, and was upset last week on grass by Roberto Bautista Agut. The Czech has a huge forehand and strong serve, but against an even more powerful serve like Opelka’s, it may be tough to dictate points. Mensik could easily win if Opelka throws in uncharacteristic errors, but the American could pull off the upset here.
Prediction: Opelka in 3

Taylor Fritz vs Joao Fonseca

Head-to-head: First meeting

This should be another exciting test for 18-year-old Joao Fonseca, who continues to challenge top opposition and showcase his best. The Brazilian had flashes of both wild misses and strong forehands in a three-set win against Zizou Bergs on Monday. Against a Top 10 player, he’ll have to be more clinical. Taylor Fritz won a grass-court title in Stuttgart earlier in June, while his tricky and consistent serve should outplay Fonseca and force him out of his comfort zone. If Fonseca can get into rallies and hit winners off his forehand, an upset shouldn’t be ruled out. It’s more likely that Fritz will use his experience and outplay the young talent deep in sets.
Prediction: Fritz in 2

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Taylor Fritz is a big name to watch on the grass courts this season, and he’ll look to pick up more wins on the fast courts before Wimbledon commences next week.
