It’s not often that a Grand Slam qualifying round boasts a former US Open Champion<\/a>, someone coming off a stunning run to the French Open semifinal<\/a> at her first main draw Slam appearance, and a fan favorite coming out of retirement<\/a> for one last run at glory, but Day 2 of the Wimbledon<\/a> women’s qualifying will serve up all three in one action-packed day.<\/p>\n

Bianca Andreescu, Lo\u00efs Boisson, and Aliz\u00e9\u00a0Cornet are the three standout players in the women’s qualifying event taking place at Roehampton\u2019s Community Sport Centre<\/a> in London this week.<\/p>\n

Andreescu Looks To Move On From Setbacks<\/h3>\n

2019 US Open winner Bianca Andreescu has recently shown flashes of returning to form, though her career since that stunning triumph at Flushing Meadows has been beset by a horrid run of injury and illness setbacks. She most recently returned to the tour in March after a six-month layoff following an emergency appendectomy, posting mixed results–from beating Elena Rybakina and Donna Vekic at the Italian Open<\/a> to losing in the French Open<\/a> qualifiers.<\/p>\n

She remains a formidable opponent to anyone on her day and is favored to make the main draw, and will be desperate to do so as she has ranking points to defend after reaching the third round last year<\/a>. It remains to be seen, though, if her body will hold up long enough to allow a deep tournament run.<\/p>\n

Breakout Star Boisson Has a Free Hit at SW19<\/h3>\n

Despite Lo\u00efs Boisson making a stunning run to the semifinals at Roland Garros earlier this Month, the All-England Lawn Tennis Club chose not to offer the French star a wild card<\/a>. Despite this, she will go in full of confidence after a barely fathomable return to the Tour<\/a> after an eight-month layoff due to an ACL tear.<\/p>\n

She will undoubtedly draw a larger-than-average crowd for a qualifier due to her exploits in Paris–but, having never played a professional match on grass before, she can go in with the lowest of ceilings for expectation, and see if she can convert the clay magic over to grass.<\/p>\n
