On paper, all of the matches appear thrilling, but the local battle between defending champion Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal is the day’s highlight. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate, but who will advance to the quarterfinals?

WTA Nottingham Day 4 Predictions

McCartney Kessler vs Lin Zhu

Head-to-Head: Kessler 1-0 Zhu

McCartney Kessler suffered a close loss last week against Qinwen Zheng, but she made up for it by defeating the top seed, Beatriz Haddad Maia, in the first round here. This was a big win for Kessler, and she will have an easier path on paper from here on. Lin Zhu got her first tour-level win of the season by defeating Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets. The Chinese player has a decent record on grass, but Kessler is playing some great tennis and has more weapons in her game.
Prediction: Kessler in 2

Magda Linette vs Mingge Xu

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Magda Linette has a great first-round record at the Nottingham Open, and she played another solid match to defeat the talented Alexandra Eala in straight sets. However, she has never won consecutive matches here and has a great chance to do so. 17-year-old wild card, Mingge Zu, got a nice first win at this level and is now closing in on a top 300 ranking. Linette will be a much stiffer opponent, perhaps too much for her right now.
Prediction: Linette in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Clara Tauson vs Anna Blinkova

Head-to-Head: Tauson 2-1 Blinkova

Clara Tauson is now the highest remaining seed left in the draw, and she will look to capitalise on it by making a deep run. She looked good in her first round match, hitting 7 aces and winning 65% of second serve points. Anna Blinkova will present a much tougher challenge for the #2 seed, and she must be ready for it. Tauson has won the previous two matches against Blinkova, but the Russian player won their only meeting on grass back in 2021. This should be a close match, but I am leaning slightly towards the Danish player.
Prediction: Tauson in 3

Katie Boulter vs Sonay Kartal

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Katie Boulter plays her best tennis in Nottingham, and she’s off to a good start in her quest for a third consecutive Nottingham Open title. With Emma Raducanu not playing this week, Boulter has a great chance to get the British #1 title back. She will face compatriot Sonay Kartal in the second round. Boulter has a great record on this surface, making her the favourite to win this match.
Prediction: Boulter in 3

Main Photo Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

The four remaining second-round matches will be played on Day 4 of the WTA Nottingham Open.
