While Siegemund is a crafty doubles specialist with grass-court experience, her recent singles form has been shaky, including early exits at Roland Garros and Stuttgart. Sramkova has shown flashes of brilliance in 2025, notably pushing former Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova at Queen’s last weel. Siegemund’s tactical variety could trouble Sramkova on grass, but aggressive baseline game should give her the edge.

Prediction: Sramkova in 3
Embed from Getty Images

Lulu Sun vs Katie Boulter

Head-to-head: first meeting

Katie Boulter is a two-time champion in Nottingham and will relish the prospect of playing here again. Her grass-court pedigree and home advantage give her the edge in this clash although Lula Sun’s power and crafty lefty serve can turn this into a tricky contest for the Briton with the Kiwi having shown her pedigree on the grass by reaching the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last year. Boulter’s aggressive returning and home support should enable her to neutralise Sun, even if this won’t be an entirely straightforward outing for the British #2.

Prediction: Boulter in 2

Yulia Starodubtseva vs Cristina Bucsa

Head-to-head: Bucsa 1–0 Starodubtseva

Yulia Starodubtseva faces Cristina Bucsa in what could be a tight clash on grass. While Bucsa won their only previous meeting at the French Open last year, Starodubtseva has shown more resilience in singles of late. Bucsa’s flat strokes and quick reflexes suit grass, but Starodubtseva’s aggressive baseline game could exploit the Spaniard’s occasional inconsistency. With both players coming off mixed results, expect a close battle decided by slim margins.

Prediction: Starodubtseva in 3
Embed from Getty Images

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs McCartney Kessler

Head-to-head: Kessler 1–0 Haddad Maia

Beatriz Haddad Maia’s grass-court pedigree makes her the favourite here, even if the Brazilian has struggled for consistency this season with just seven wins from 24 matches so far this season. McCartney Kessler won their only previous meeting and brings better recent form, but her lack of experience on grass could prove costly. Haddad Maia might need to batten down the hatches at points, but if she can manage her accuracy off the ground, she should have the beating of Kessler.

Prediction: Haddad Maia in 3

Main photo credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

As the grass-court swing gathers momentum, the WTA Nottingham Open has served up a compelling second day with eight intriguing matches on the slate.
