As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But which players will advance?

WTA Berlin Day 2 Predictions

Daria Kasatkina vs Xinyu Wang

Head-to-Head: Kasatkina 1-1 Wang

Daria Kasatkina took an early exit in London last week and will be looking to get her first win on grass this season. Kasatkina is a former quarterfinalist at this event and is a skilled player on grass courts. However, it won’t be easy against the qualifier, Xinyu Wang, who defeated Ons Jabeur in the final round of qualifying. Wang has beaten Kasatkina before, but that was on a hard court. If the Australian plays close to her best, she will be the favourite to win this.

Prediction: Kasatkina in 3

Amanda Anisimova vs Bianca Andreescu

Head-to-Head: Anisimova 0-1 Andreescu

Amanda Anisimova makes a short turnaround after reaching the final of the HSBC Championships in London. Anisimova came up against a red-hot Tatjana Maria in the final, but it was a positive week for the American player, and she will look to build on it here. Bianca Andreescu also had a couple of good wins last week, but should be disappointed by her performance against Elena-Gabriela Ruse. This is a great encounter between two pure ball strikers. Andreescu must serve well to make this a close contest. I am backing Anisimova to get her first win at the Berlin Tennis Open.

Prediction: Anisimova in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Qinwen Zheng vs Elena Rybakina

Head-to-Head: Zheng 1-2 Rybakina

This match could have easily been a semifinal or final, and it’s a shame for both players that this is just a first-round match. However, Rybakina’s struggles this year have made this possible. Qinwen Zheng has just one match win at this tournament and will look to change that. Rybakina retired mid-match during the quarterfinals here last year due to abdominal pain, but she has been in good health recently, which is encouraging. Zheng is the higher seed, but Rybakina is a better player on this surface when she is at her best.

Prediction: Rybakina in 3

Main Photo Syndication: Desert Sun

Day 2 of the Berlin Tennis Open is stacked with great encounters. This article features a mouth-watering clash between former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina and Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng.
