A qualifier, he stunned Reilly Opelka in straight sets (before Opelka reached the quarterfinals here as a lucky loser), and cruised past Laslo Djere 6-2 6-4 in the first round. A walkover win over Hubert Hurkacz surely refreshed the youngster before this big match. Bergs, also relatively new to the tour, has a fiery game and won a three-hour match against Alexei Popyrin, the No. 4 seed in the second round. Bergs also had never won an ATP-tour level grass court match before this week. While Lajal will be confident and should have nothing to lose, Bergs’ tour-level experience should guide him to a big semifinal appearance.
