Who will advance to the semifinals?

ATP Den Bosch Quarterfinal Predictions

Gabriel Diallo vs Karen Khachanov

Head-to-head: Khachanov 3-0

As Diallo rises up the ATP rankings, he’s pushed Khachanov in three past meetings, including an ATP final last year in Kazakhstan. However, Khachanov has won all of their matches and has only lost to two players outside the Top 50 in 2025. The Canadian is playing well this week; he upset Jordan Thompson in the second round, winning 7-5 in the third set. On Thursday, Khachanov defeated Mackenzie McDonald in a tight 6-3 5-7 7-6(3) encounter. The Russian has to be the favorite, but Diallo has an aggressive game that could pull off the upset on grass courts. Just barely going for Khachanov in a close three-setter.
Prediction: Khachanov in 3

Zizou Bergs vs Mark Lajal

Head-to-head: First meeting

Keep an eye out for Lajal in the future. A qualifier, he stunned Reilly Opelka in straight sets (before Opelka reached the quarterfinals here as a lucky loser), and cruised past Laslo Djere 6-2 6-4 in the first round. A walkover win over Hubert Hurkacz surely refreshed the youngster before this big match. Bergs, also relatively new to the tour, has a fiery game and won a three-hour match against Alexei Popyrin, the No. 4 seed in the second round. Bergs also had never won an ATP-tour level grass court match before this week. While Lajal will be confident and should have nothing to lose, Bergs’ tour-level experience should guide him to a big semifinal appearance.
Prediction: Bergs in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Nuno Borges vs Ugo Humbert

Head-to-head: Borges 1-0

Humbert’s French Open didn’t go to plan this year after an injury retirement. However, the Frenchman likes the grass courts and looked strong in a second-round win over Daniel Evans. Borges had never won a grass-court match until this week, and should benefit from a walkover Otto Virtanen. Humbert may face pressure as he’s defending semifinalist points here and second-week Wimbledon points–but he’s the heavy favorite to take out Borges and his counterpunching style of tennis. Borges will have to find ways to get past Humbert’s net game.
Prediction: Humbert in 2

Daniil Medvedev vs Reilly Opelka

Head-to-head: Medvedev 4-1

It’s hard to tell if Opelka will bring his top game, but the American could take out any top player on his best day. At tour-level, Opelka is 8-9 on grass courts–a bit low given his huge serve and volleying strengths. The pair also haven’t played since a big final, when Medvedev beat Opelka 6-4 6-3 in the ATP 1000 final in Toronto four years ago. Medvedev hasn’t had the best season, but he should play consistent enough tennis to outmatch Opelka’s power. The Russian also took out a former Den Bosch champion Adrian Mannarino in the last round.
Prediction: Medvedev in 2

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

It’s always tough for any tennis player to make the shift from clay courts to grass courts, but eight players have had solid weeks in the grass ATP 250 event in Den Bosch, playing their quarterfinal matches Friday.
