World #1 faces World #2 with a maiden French Open title on the line for both. Both of these women should be competing for Majors for years to come, but which one will take home this trophy? As always, our writers share their thoughts. Predicting this match are Jordan Reynolds, Ateet Shrivastava, Tope Oke, Ilemona Onekutu, and Shane Black. Who do you think will win?

French Open Women’s Final Predictions

Coco Gauff vs Aryna Sabalenka

Ateet:
Aryna Sabalenka is into her first French Open final as she defeated four-time champion Iga Swiatek in three sets. This was a huge win for Sabalenka and probably her biggest hurdle to winning the clay Slam.

Coco Gauff ended the dream run of Lois Boisson with a spectacular performance. She is having an incredible clay season and will play in her second French Open final. After falling short in her last two finals in Madrid and Rome, she will be determined to break the streak. Both players know each other extremely well with their head-to-head record locked at 5-5. I will give a slight edge to Sabalenka after her win over Swiatek and she will also be looking to exact revenge of the US Open 2023 final.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3

Tope:
Apt final after a week of some sensational tennis by both players. The truth is the best two players are in the Championship match and their head to head reads five apiece. Another coin toss: I’ll take a stab with Sabalenka to win the title she’s wanted the most especially after she’s bageled the queen of clay.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3

Jordan:
Sabalenka will be expected to win by most after she secured one of the most important victories of her career against Iga Swiatek in the semifinal. But I have a feeling Gauff can pull this off if she produces her best. The American has more pace on her first serve than Swiatek, giving the 2023 US Open champion a better chance of not being repeatedly exploited on that shot like the Pole was. I also back Gauff to handle Sabalenka’s groundstroke speed better and dig in with her outstanding defensive skills. The 21-year-old was competitive against Sabalenka last month in the quicker conditions in Madrid. She should have an even better chance in Paris.
Prediction: Gauff in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Ilemona:
This is a classic power vs speed showdown. Sabalenka’s brutal hitting crushed Swiatek in the semis, but Gauff’s elite defense and mental toughness make her a nightmare matchup. Their rivalry is dead even (5-5), though Sabalenka has won three of their last four–including Madrid last month. But don’t forget: Gauff beat her in the 2023 US Open final. Sabalenka’s improved clay game and big-match experience (3-2 in Slam finals) give her a slight edge, but Gauff’s legs are fresher after an easy semi. If Sabalenka’s serve fires, she’ll overpower Gauff. If not, Gauff’s relentless retrieving could turn this into a war.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3

Shane:
No. 1 versus No. 2. Could we ask for any more? Sabalenka and Gauff have dropped just one set in six matches in Paris, respectively. They are playing scintillating tennis and should produce a match filled with incredible baseline ball striking. Coming into this season, the American was seen as the better clay-courter, but Sabalenka comes into this final with an 18-2 mark on the dirt this season. She was unplayable in her third-set bagel of Swiatek in the semis. In her current form, Sabalenka has too much power for me to pick against her. Her best is better than Gauff’s best.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-Imagn Images

We are in for an absolute treat in the French Open women’s final.
