Ateet Shrivastava, Tope Oke, and Shane Black offer their insights. But who will advance?

French Open Men’s Day 5 Predictions

Andrey Rublev vs Adam Walton

Ateet
Rublev doesn’t win many straight sets matches at the French Open, and it was the case against Lloyd Harris, who sneaked a set. But overall, it was a good performance from the Russian, and he shouldn’t face any problems in the next match either. Walton defeated Maximilian Marterer as an underdog to get his first win here. He will have to wait at least a year to get another.
Prediction: Rublev in 3

Tope
Although he has faced challenges during the clay court season, Andrey Rublev will look to build on his momentum from Hamburg with a deep tournament run, having previously made the quarterfinals in both 2020 and 2022. He will handle this matchup against an inexperienced opponent without any issues.
Prediction: Rublev in 3

Shane
Rublev has been tough to trust this season, but against Aussie Adam Walton, who prefers faster surfaces, the Russian should have no problem. Anything but a straightforward win would be surprising.
Prediction: Rublev in 4

Jakub Mensik vs Henrique Rocha

Ateet
Jakub Mensik demonstrated great mental strength in overcoming a tough opponent and the pressure from the French crowd in the first round. His serve and baseline game were dialed in, and he won some crucial points with his clutchness. The atmosphere and opponent will be easier for Mensik in the second round.
Prediction: Mensik in 3

Tope
Even though Henrique Rocha is a big hitter, he should pose a lesser challenge to Mensik, especially after battling through a tricky first-round opponent. Give me the Czech youngster to progress to the third round of the tournament for the first time in his career in straight sets.
Prediction: Mensik in 3

Shane
Mensik has the potential to become a future top-ten player. Rocha is solid on the clay and should push the Czech. However, I favor Mensik to win this match and make a run to the second week.
Prediction: Mensik in 4

Embed from Getty Images

Cameron Norrie vs Federico Agustin Gomez

Ateet
Cameron Norrie defeated Daniil Medvedev in a thrilling five-setter. Norrie led the match, winning the first two sets, and then fell apart in the next two, primarily due to Medvedev’s level. However, he fought hard in the fifth set and won the match from a losing position. This was his first victory over Medvedev and should give him confidence for the next match.
Prediction: Norrie in 4

Tope
Cameron Norrie is vastly more experienced than Gomez and is starting to find his rhythm on clay. Great bow from the Argentine, but this is as far as he goes as the Brit advances to the third round of the tournament for the fourth time in his career.
Prediction: Norrie in 4

Shane
It was a big-time first-round win for Cameron Norrie over Daniil Medvedev. He has been playing some decent tennis of late and should be motivated to reach the second week of the French Open for the first time. Gomez did well to win his first-round match, but his lack of five-set experience should be evident in this match.
Prediction: Norrie in 4

Gael Monfils vs Jack Draper

Ateet
Gael Monfils made another outstanding comeback in front of a packed stadium as only he could. However, it was a match he should have won in a less scenic way, and Draper will take full advantage if there’s any fatigue for the Frenchman. I can’t see Monfils pulling off another miracle.
Prediction: Draper in 4

Tope
This promises to be high octane with Monfils likely to enjoy fantastic support once again. Nonetheless, Draper possesses the skills and game to potentially overpower and outlast the veteran, advancing to the third round for the first time.
Prediction: Draper in 4

Shane
Monfils vs Draper is one of the best second-round matches on the French Open slate. The Frenchman will have strong backing from the crowd, but Draper is arguably the most in-form player on tour. This match should produce many exciting rallies, but I’ll take the younger legs in this one.
Prediction: Draper in 5

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey – USA TODAY Sports

The second round of the French Open wraps up on day five as 16 men look to punch their ticket into the final 32.
