The second round of the women’s singles wraps up on Day 5 of the French Open. We get 16 great matches on Thursday, but who will reach the third round. As always, our writers share their thoughts on all of the matches. We split the 16 matches between four articles–the other three feature Coco Gauff vs Tereza Valentova<\/a>, Mirra Andreeva vs Ashlyn Krueger<\/a>, and Victoria Azarenka vs Sofia Kenin<\/a>. Predicting these matches are Jordan Reynolds, Damian Kust, and Manuel Traquete. Who do you think will advance?<\/p>\n

French Open Day 5 Predictions<\/h2>\n

Alycia Parks vs Elsa Jacquemot<\/h4>\n

Jordan:<\/em>
\nJacquemot will need to soak up a lot of pressure to win this match. Achieving that will be difficult if Parks finds a similar level to the deciding set of her match against Karolina Muchova. The American is backed to hit her way to the third round by beating the Frenchwoman.
\nPrediction: Parks in 2<\/em><\/p>\n

Damian:<\/em>
\nMost of Parks\u2019s slow clay performances are a complete bust, but she was able to take down Muchova in the opening round with a flurry of winners. It\u2019s kind of redundant to say anything about this match: it\u2019s on the American\u2019s racket and she\u2019ll either hit herself off the court or find some rhythm again to dominate. Take a guess.
\nPrediction: Parks in 3<\/em><\/p>\n

Manuel:<\/em>
\nParks might be the far higher ranked player, but on this surface and at the moment both players have quite similar levels and Jacquemot could well pull through here.

Barbora Krejcikova vs Veronika Kudermetova<\/h4>\n

Jordan:<\/em>
\nKrejcikova\u2019s second match and first win in six months against Tatjana Maria was very scrappy. The 2021 French Open champion needs a much better performance against Kudermetova. Usually, I would favor Krejcikova\u2019s variety in this matchup, but a lack of match sharpness is likely to cost the Czech here.
\nPrediction: Kudermetova in 2<\/em><\/p>\n

Damian:<\/em>
\nThis was a legendary opener at Wimbledon<\/a>, certainly not for its quality but for the drama and the fact that the winner ended up claiming the title<\/a>. Unfortunately, Krejcikova\u2019s health has been a mess since and that puts her in a tough position here. As she was not serving at 100% in her opener against Maria, it\u2019s a good chance to exact revenge for Kudermetova.
\nPrediction: Kudermetova in 3<\/em><\/p>\n

Manuel:<\/em>
\nInjuries have completely derailed Krejcikova’s 2025, so it would be fair to give a slight edge to Kudermetova here. However, Krejciokva is a game raiser at Slams, having won Wimbledon last year and Roland Garros in 2021. She might well rise up to the occasion again here.
