We get 16 great matches on Thursday, but who will reach the third round. As always, our writers share their thoughts on all of the matches. We split the 16 matches between four articles–the other three feature Coco Gauff vs Tereza Valentova, Mirra Andreeva vs Ashlyn Krueger, and Victoria Azarenka vs Sofia Kenin. Predicting these matches are Jordan Reynolds, Damian Kust, and Manuel Traquete. Who do you think will advance?

French Open Day 5 Predictions

Alycia Parks vs Elsa Jacquemot

Jordan:
Jacquemot will need to soak up a lot of pressure to win this match. Achieving that will be difficult if Parks finds a similar level to the deciding set of her match against Karolina Muchova. The American is backed to hit her way to the third round by beating the Frenchwoman.
Prediction: Parks in 2

Damian:
Most of Parks’s slow clay performances are a complete bust, but she was able to take down Muchova in the opening round with a flurry of winners. It’s kind of redundant to say anything about this match: it’s on the American’s racket and she’ll either hit herself off the court or find some rhythm again to dominate. Take a guess.
Prediction: Parks in 3

Manuel:
Parks might be the far higher ranked player, but on this surface and at the moment both players have quite similar levels and Jacquemot could well pull through here.
Prediction: Jacquemot in 3

Barbora Krejcikova vs Veronika Kudermetova

Jordan:
Krejcikova’s second match and first win in six months against Tatjana Maria was very scrappy. The 2021 French Open champion needs a much better performance against Kudermetova. Usually, I would favor Krejcikova’s variety in this matchup, but a lack of match sharpness is likely to cost the Czech here.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 2

Damian:
This was a legendary opener at Wimbledon, certainly not for its quality but for the drama and the fact that the winner ended up claiming the title. Unfortunately, Krejcikova’s health has been a mess since and that puts her in a tough position here. As she was not serving at 100% in her opener against Maria, it’s a good chance to exact revenge for Kudermetova.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 3

Manuel:
Injuries have completely derailed Krejcikova’s 2025, so it would be fair to give a slight edge to Kudermetova here. However, Krejciokva is a game raiser at Slams, having won Wimbledon last year and Roland Garros in 2021. She might well rise up to the occasion again here.
Prediction: Krejcikova in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Robin Montgomery vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro

Jordan:
Bouzas Maneiro’s 6-0 6-1 win against Emma Navarro in the opening round was one of the strangest results seen in the last few years at Grand Slams. I think the Spaniard might come crashing back to earth here. Montgomery played outstandingly in her hammering of Diane Parry, and will be happy to take on Bouzas Maneiro’s forehand in cross-court rallies, which is usually her biggest strength.
Prediction: Montgomery in 3

Damian:
Bouzas Maneiro’s upset over Navarro in the opening round wasn’t that crazy, although the extent of it certainly caught you by surprise. The Spaniard has been quietly improving and should be the favorite here over Montgomery, who’s had a bit of a stop-start season but is learning clay tennis quickly in the last few years.
Prediction: Bouzas Maneiro in 2

Manuel:
Bouzas Maneiro lost only one game against Emma Navarro in the first round, a win that will surely give her an incredible confidence boost for the rest of the tournament. She is also generally the better claycourt player of the two and should prevail here.
Prediction: Bouzas Maneiro in 2

Madison Keys vs Katie Boulter

Jordan:
Both players have a similar style of player. Keys implements it much more effectively on clay than Boulter, who has not played much on it due to injuries. Expect the Australian Open champion to be comfortable here.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Damian:
“Claytie” Boulter sits on a 6-match winning streak on this surface now and while she might not love it, just getting solid results on it is already a big boost. Keys should be stronger, though. She’s had massive Roland Garros runs before and put away Saville so quickly in the opening round. Very different opponent her stylistically, but still.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Manuel:
Keys is still undefeated at Slams this year and while that seems unlikely to hold true after this tournament, she should be able to overcome Boulter here and continue her quest for another Slam title.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-Imagn Images

The second round of the women’s singles wraps up on Day 5 of the French Open.
