Predicting these matches are Jordan Reynolds, Damian Kust, and Ilemona Onekutu. Who do you think will reach Round 2?

French Open Day 3 Women’s Predictions

Chloe Paquet vs Tereza Valentova

Jordan:
Valentova did not drop a set in qualifying and dominated all of her matches. Although Paquet will have home support, the momentum built from qualifying could prove important. The Czech is backed to win in three sets.
Prediction: Valentova in 3

Damian:
Looks like 18-year-old Valentova might be ready for a big result. While most of her success earlier in the season came indoors and she wasn’t that impressive in the clay-court swing, she dominated the qualifying here. Especially the win over Galfi was one you had to take notice of and Paquet is not posing as much of a threat.
Prediction: Valentova in 2

Ilemona:
Chloe Paquet, fresh off a runner-up finish at the 2025 Trophée Clarins, brings experience and strong home-court performances into her Roland-Garros opener. Her opponent, 18-year-old Tereza Valentova, the 2024 Roland-Garros girls’ singles and doubles champion, is making her Grand Slam main draw debut. While Valentova’s junior success is notable, Paquet’s experience and recent form make her the favorite in this first-round match.
Prediction: Pacquet in 3

Maria Sakkari vs Elsa Jacquemot

Jordan:
Sakkari has not consistently been at the level that took her to a semifinal at Roland Garros for a long time. However, the Greek provided a glimpse of what she is capable of in Madrid by hammering Jasmine Paolini. She should have enough in her game to see off the Frenchwoman in front of her home fans.
Prediction: Sakkari in 2

Damian:
Sakkari doesn’t seem to be on the verge of returning to the Top 10, but she has improved from the horrible start to the year and after Madrid/Rome, she should be eyeing at least one win here. Sure, the conditions don’t suit her as much as the altitude in Spain. But she’s still a former semifinalist and the last player to defeat Swiatek at the French Open.
Prediction: Sakkari in 2

Ilemona:
Maria Sakkari enters her first-round match at Roland-Garros as a strong favorite against French wildcard Elsa Jacquemot. Despite a challenging 2025 season, Sakkari remains a formidable opponent with a wealth of Grand Slam experience. Jacquemot, while promising, faces a significant challenge in her main draw debut, underscoring Sakkari’s status as the clear favorite to advance.
Prediction: Sakkari in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Ashlyn Krueger vs Suzan Lamens

Jordan:
Krueger will likely face a tough test from Lamens, a very capable player on clay. The Dutchwoman’s game is suited to soaking up power when she produces her best tennis. That is crucial against Krueger’s playing style, and might prove decisive in this matchup.
Prediction: Lamens in 3

Damian:
Tough to call this one since Kruguer is the better ballstriker by a significant margin, but we’re not on her favorite surface and there’s a possibility she might hit herself off the court here. Lamens will be trying to do her best to facilitate it, but in the long run you probably have to go with the upside of the American here.
Prediction: Krueger in 3

Ilemona:
Ashlyn Krueger is the heavy favorite in her Roland-Garros 2025 opener against Dutch qualifier Suzan Lamens. The 21-year-old American, ranked a career-high No. 34, has been in better clay-court form and previously defeated Lamens 7–5 6–0 at the 2025 Brisbane International.
Prediction: Krueger in 2

Mirra Andreeva vs Cristina Bucsa

Jordan:
Andreeva needs to produce an error-strewn performance to lose this match. Bucsa hits the ball flat, but without much pace. That style is unlikely to unsettle Andreeva much.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Damian:
Andreeva made the semifinals last year and now she’s ten times the player she was back then. While the inexperience comes out sometimes (especially in the Gauff matchup), she is no doubt one of the potential contenders for the title. Unless that makes her nervous as it’s the first time she’s entering a Slam in this position, she’s not losing here.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Ilemona:
Mirra Andreeva enters Roland-Garros as a Top 10 force and a reigning WTA 1000 champion, having surged to the semifinals here last year at just 17. With wins over Aryna Sabalenka and Victoria Azarenka already on her resume, she’s only grown more dominant and consistent since. Facing an out-of-form Cristina Bucsa, who has struggled for main-draw wins in 2025, Andreeva is expected to cruise into the second round with little resistance.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The first round of both the men’s and women’s singles will conclude on Day of the French Open.
