Predicting these matches are Jordan Reynolds, Manuel Traquete, and Andreas Pelekis. Who do you think will move on?

French Open Day 2 Women’s Predictions

Arantxa Rus vs Camila Osorio

Jordan:
Expect plenty of brutal rallies between two great movers on clay who do not possess overwhelming firepower. A year ago, Rus was thriving and this match would have been challenging to call. The Dutchwoman’s form has dipped significantly since, and Osorio is the favorite to triumph.
Prediction: Osorio in 2

Nurein:
While Osorio’s favorite surface is clay, she hasn’t had much success at Roland Garros. She has a chance to start changing that here and should be able to advance past this first round.
Prediction: Osorio in 3

Andreas:
Rus has traditionally struggled at Grand Slam tournaments, at one point losing 12 consecutive first-round matches. The World No. 94 will have to fight through long rallies, as Osorio is likely to grind from the baseline and force errors. Osorio is a tricky player to face on clay, and she should be the favorite.
Prediction: Osorio in 2

Caroline Dolehide vs Greet Minnen

Jordan:
Dolehide will try to dominate the rallies with her forehand. On clay, Minnen has a better chance of coping with that. I feel Dolehide could be left frustrated during the rallies and end up making a damaging number of unforced errors.
Prediction: Minnen in 3

Nurein:
It’s a very unpredictable matchup. While Minnen won when they faced on hard court earlier this year, on clay Dolehide might well turn the tables on her.
Prediction: Dolehide in 3

Andreas:
Including qualifying matches, Dolehide is 6-5 on clay this season, and has a heavy topspin game that works well on slower courts. Minnen has only played one match on clay in 2025, and the American should feel like the favorite due to her matchplay and experience. If Dolehide can serve well and avoid unforced errors, look for her to win comfortably.
Prediction: Dolehide in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Madison Keys vs Daria Saville

Jordan:
Most of the rallies will be Keys’ attack vs Saville’s defense. I do not think the underdog has a chance of coping with the Australian Open champion’s formidable hitting. This should be a comfortable start for Keys.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Nurein:
Keys won the only Grand Slam of the year thus far and while she is very unlikely to repeat that here in Paris, she should at least make it through this first round.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Andreas:
New Grand Slam champions traditionally don’t fare well in their following Grand Slam tournament. Especially for a player with huge ups and downs like Keys, this tournament will be important for her. The American has an okay 5-3 record on clay this season, while Saville, a former Top 20 player, hasn’t been able to string together wins at WTA main draw level this year. Saville did win the pair’s last meeting, though it took place in 2017.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

The first round of the women’s singles continues on Day 2 of the 2025 French Open. 25 matches are scheduled, and our writers here at LastWordOnTennis share their thoughts on all of the matches with you.
