Petra Kvitová headlines the group against the stylish Viktorija Golubic, while young talents like Alexandra Eala and Marta Kostyuk aim to make their mark on the storied Parisian clay. We have predictions for every day 1 match.

Laura Siegemund vs. Anna Bondár

Embed from Getty Images

Steen Kirby: The 37 year old Siegemund has one previous quarterfinal at Roland Garros, she’s 4-7 at tour level this year and respectable on clay, Bondar is just 1-6 at tour level this year and a marginal ITF level player for at least half of the season. This matchup should be competitive but Siegemund’s experience helps her triumph. Siegemund in 2

Jordan Reynolds: This could be a very long match between two players who do not strike the ball with a lot of power. Overall, I favor Bondar to outlast Siegemund. The German is nearing the end of her career and might not be as ready for a matchup like this compared to the past. Bondar in 3

Alexandra Eala vs. Emiliana Arango

Steen: The 20 year old Eala lost to Arango in their only h2h, but on clay, the 2025 Miami quarterfinalist has a shot to even those odds. The pride of Colombia, Arango is 5-4 at tour level this year and is looking to break into the top 80 of the rankings. Despite being at a slight ranking disadvantage, the surface suits Arango enough to give her the upper hand. Arango in 3

Jordan: Eala will be the aggressor throughout this match. Arango is one of the players in the women’s draw who bases her game almost entirely on defense. I think Eala has the necessary to skills to handle that challenge because she can match Arango’s athleticism while possessing more firepower. Eala in 2

Petra Kvitová vs. Viktorija Golubic

Steen: Kvitova has won their only meeting but has frankly struggled in a limited 2025 comeback season that has already seen her injured, Golubic is also far off her best tennis with just one tour level win in 2025. Twice a semifinalist, does Kvitova have enough form to get off the mat and win her opening match in Paris? I’ll say yes. Kvitova in 3

Jordan: Predicting Kvitova’s level is not easy after she returned to the sport a few months ago and withdrew from the Italian Open a few weeks ago with an injury. However, this is a good draw due to Golubic being past her prime. The Czech might be able to win this match without being at her best. Kvitova in 2

Marta Kostyuk vs. Sara Bejlek

Embed from Getty Images

Steen: Kostyuk won three matches in Rome and three in Madrid, 17-11 on the season, the 19 year old Bejlek has limited tour level experience and hasn’t broken through yet. Kostyuk should make quick work of this encounter and march into round 2. Kostyuk in 2

Jordan: Kostyuk is usually solid in the early rounds of tournaments. Bejlek possesses talent and will probably have her moments in the match, but not enough to seriously threaten an upset against the Ukrainian. Kostyuk in 2

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Kicking off on Sunday, the 2025 French Open features an exciting slate of first-round clashes. showcasing rising stars and seasoned veterans.
