For the past three years, the women’s tournament had some sense of inevitability as the projected champion turned out to be the winner. But this year, the edge that Iga Swiatek held over the rest of the field on the Parisian clay is no longer absolute. On that note, let us take a closer look at the five players with the best chance at French Open glory in the next two weeks.

Top 5 Women’s Favorites To Win the French Open

5. Jasmine Paolini

For a nation that is obsessed with football, Jasmine Paolini stands as the face of women’s tennis in Italy. She’s a megastar and one of the most famous sportswomen in her home country. Paolini’s remarkable rise while in her late 20s is one of the most interesting stories of the past year. There’s no one better at pouncing on opportunities in a draw as efficiently and effectively as Paolini. That is such a valuable trait. She proved that last season, reaching two Grand Slam finals. All it takes is one or two of the top seeds being eliminated and Paolini could have clear daylight again.

4. Mirra Andreeva

Embed from Getty Images

There are already comparisons being thrown out of Mirra Andreeva potentially emulating her countrywoman Maria Sharapova in winning her first Grand Slam as a teenager. She’s a prodigy in full bloom, and you would be mistaken to erase her name as one of the favorites for the title with the kind of season she’s having. Andreeva has earned five top 10 wins in 2025 – the second-most on tour this season – and captured two WTA 1000s.

3. Iga Swiatek

The tournament’s defending champion is the oddsmakers’ favorite to win the title for the fifth time, but ranks third on this list. Some analysts have cast doubt on Swiatek’s chances of reigning supreme in Paris next month after her trophyless start to 2025. In fact, her title drought dates back to last summer. She has not added to her trophy cabinet since the 2024 French Open. Swiatek may not be an untouchable force right now, but she remains the best clay-court player of her generation. It would be a shortsighted view to count her out entirely.

2. Aryna Sabalenka

It’s almost a given that Aryna Sabalenka will be in the mix to win the French Open. Her Grand Slam record since the 2022 US Open is exemplary. She has reached the semifinals or better in eight of her last nine Majors and lifted three titles. As one of the most physically imposing players on tour, Sabalenka has added a new layer to her game – the drop shot. On clay, she’s become unpredictable and, from her recent displays in Madrid and Rome, has shown her game can go to the next level with a bit of variation.

1. Coco Gauff

Embed from Getty Images

It may come as a surprise that one of the players who is yet to lift a WTA title this season is our top favorite for the women’s title. The intricate demands of clay courts require problem-solving skills. Gauff’s proficiency on this surface is undeniable, and she’s probably the fastest player on the WTA Tour. Her track record at the French Open underscores her comfort level in this tournament. Perhaps Swiatek’s alarming slump might be the small window she needs to win her second Grand Slam.

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-Imagn Images

In less than a week, the first ball of the 2025 French Open will be struck.
