Coco Gauff, Aryna Sabalenka, and Emma Raducanu are all scheduled to compete for a place in the round of 16. We here at LWOT predict the eight contests here and in a separate article, including Mirra Andreeva vs Linda Noskova.

WTA Rome Day 6 Predictions

Emma Raducanu vs Veronika Kudermetova

Head-to-head: First meeting

Clay has been Raducanu’s least favored surface since the start of her career, but the Briton dominated Jil Teichmann in the previous round. Kudermetova, who defeated Dubai Tennis Championships winner Amanda Anisimova to set up the meeting with Raducanu, will be a more challenging opponent. The 28-year-old is a former semifinalist in Rome and often produces her best tennis in slower conditions despite her powerful style. Raducanu may fall just short against Kudermetova’s hitting.

Prediction: Kudermetova in 3

Elena Rybakina vs Bianca Andreescu

Head-to-head: Rybakina 3-0 Andreescu

Rybakina easily defeated Andreescu two weeks ago at the Mutua Madrid Open. Andreescu beat Donna Vekic in the last round and could be confident of defending more competently against the Kazakhstani in Rome, where the conditions are slower. However, Rybakina won the 2023 WTA Rome title and usually plays better tennis at the tournament than in Madrid. Andreescu faces an uphill task to avoid a fourth consecutive loss to Rybakina.

Prediction: Rybakina in 2

Aryna Sabalenka vs Sofia Kenin

Head-to-head: Sabalenka 3-1 Kenin

Embed from Getty Images

Kenin’s sole victory against Sabalenka was in Rome two years ago. The 2020 Australian Open winner’s best chance of upsetting the world No. 1 is on a slow clay-court like the one in Italy. While her hopes are improved, Sabalenka remains a significant favorite. She was the runner-up last year and might be even more confident of winning a maiden title at the tournament after Iga Swiatek’s exit. Kenin’s level can also be unpredictable.

Prediction: Sabalenka in 2

Coco Gauff vs Magda Linette

Head-to-head: Gauff 2-1 Linette

Embed from Getty Images

Linette stunned Gauff in March at the Miami Open. The Pole beating her on clay would be even more surprising since the matchup favors Gauff more. Last year’s WTA Finals champion is less likely to experience the forehand breakdown that cost her against Linette in Miami on a slow clay-court. The gap between Gauff and Linette’s movement on the dirt is also more pronounced than on other surfaces.

Prediction: Gauff in 2

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images

The remaining WTA Rome round of 32 matches will be completed on Day 6.
