Its history dates back to 1892 when the inaugural edition was held. In 2025, the tournament will mark its 119th edition and will be played in the lead-up to the French Open. As such, a list of eight Top 20 ATP stars will take part, but who are they?

Hamburg Open: Eight Top 20 Players Set To Feature

The first name on the entry list is that of World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. After serving a three-month suspension from the Tour for two failed drug tests, Sinner will make only his third tournament appearance of 2025. He’ll arrive after competing in his first clay-court tournament of the season in Rome.

Sinner will be joined by fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who is now part of the world’s Top 10. Musetti was a runner-up in Monte Carlo and reached the semifinals in Madrid as he continues to make rapid progress before the French Open. Unlike Sinner, Musetti has played in Hamburg in the past and won the event in 2022 by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.

The third Top 10 member in Hamburg will be Holger Rune. There is a semblance of consistency in Rune’s results this season, and he was a recent title winner on clay in Barcelona.

Embed from Getty Images

Tommy Paul will be one of two seeded Americans in the draw. The 27-year-old won the French Open as a junior but has not translated that success at the senior level. Paul’s only previous appearance in Hamburg was five years ago when he lost in the last 16 as a qualifier.

The other seeded American is Frances Tiafoe. After struggling in the first quarter of the season, Tiafoe enjoyed his best spell on clay in April, reaching the final in Houston and the second week of the Madrid Open. He’ll make his debut in Hamburg.

Andrey Rublev will return to Hamburg for the first time in two years. The Russian has twice reached the finals in this tournament and won the title in 2020.

Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo has won 16 matches on clay this term and can add to that tally in Hamburg. The 26-year-old reached the last eight in his last visit last season.

Closing the list of Top 20 names in the field is Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek will aim to restore his ranking to its original status after falling to 19th. Tsitsipas has posted a modest 5-3 record on clay this year, a low return by his high standards.

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The Hamburg Open is one of the oldest tennis tournaments in the world.
