But that was only half the story of a very successful fortnight for the World No. 1.

Sabalenka will officially cross the 11,000-point mark when the rankings are officially updated on Monday. She’ll become the third WTA player to achieve this milestone, joining Serena Williams (13,615 pts in 2013) and her current rival, Iga Swiatek, who accomplished this feat last season (11,695 pts).

Sabalenka’s precise tally will stand at 11,118 points, accumulating 35o points from her title-winning run in Madrid, where she won her third title at the event and overcoming last year’s disappointment of spurning match points in the final against Swiatek.

This is Sabalenka’s third title from six finals in 2025 and by defeating Gauff, she earned her sixth win without defeat against a Top 10 player this season (her loss to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final and Mirra Andreeva don’t count in this stat as the both players were ranked outside the Top 10 at the time).

Embed from Getty Images

While some of her rivals continue to be in a constant flux and deteriorating form, Sabalenka has set a new standard of consistency. She has won 31 of 36 matches this season, and only failed to reach the final in two of eight tournaments. She will pull clear of second-placed Swiatek by 4,345 points.

Sabalenka Could Break Serena Williams’ Points Record At Wimbledon

Although she has runner-up points to defend in Rome, Sabalenka could realistically eclipse Serena’s record tally of 13,615 points in the next two months. Sabalenka can gain a maximum of 1,570 points if she wins the French Open (she lost in the quarterfinals last season). She didn’t play at Wimbledon last year due to injury and can add the full 2,000 points there. The Belarusian doesn’t necessarily need to win both Slams, but would need to make deep runs to have a shot at the retired legend’s record.

For so long, Sabalenka’s high-risk game proved to be her undoing in high-stakes matches. But 2025 is proving to be her year now that she’s turned that raw power into a refined and reliable force.

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Aryna Sabalenka lifted her third Madrid Open crown on Sunday with a comfortable 6-3 7-6 victory over Coco Gauff.
