Last year’s finalist, Grigor Dimitrov, will also take to the court despite picking up a thumb injury in Indian Wells this past week. The pair will be among a slew of seeded players in action, but who will reach the next round?

ATP Miami Day 3 Predictions

Lorenzo Musetti vs Quentin Halys

Head-to-head: Halys 1-0 Musetti

It’s unclear whether Musetti’s medical timeout in Indian Wells has anything to do with his calf injury in South America. But the Italian was involved in a high-quality third-round match against Arthur Fils. He spurned a match point in a three-set defeat. His opening match in Miami is unlikely to be physical. Halys is a big server that looks at end points much quicker. That might still benefit Musetti, who has a more varied game.

Prediction: Musetti in 3

Francisco Cerundolo vs Alexandre Muller

Head-to-head: Muller 2-0 Cerundolo

Muller demolished Cerundolo in their only previous hard-court meeting in Auckland last season. And when they met on clay in Rio a few weeks ago, the result was the same. However, fatigue was an obvious limiting factor, considering Cerundolo had played a full week in Buenos Aires before that. He’ll be more prepared in their third meeting, although he must come up with his trademark pacey shots to temper Muller’s bursts of creativity.

Prediction: Cerundolo in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Grigor Dimitrov vs Federico Cina

Head-to-head: first meeting

Due to physical issues, Dimitrov has been restricted to just 10 matches this season. Last week, he might have picked a thumb injury (entirely by accident) in his win over Monfils. There are no concerns about the injury being a potential setback. Dimitrov is still in the draw. Federico Cina, for his part, got off the mark on his ATP debut. He defeated countryman Francisco Comesana to earn his maiden Top 100 win. This will be a real step up for the 17-year-old. Provided any pain does not perturb Dimitrov, he’ll outclass the inexperienced Italian wild card.

Prediction: Dimitrov in 2

Daniil Medvedev vs Jaume Munar

Head-to-head: first meeting

Many players would be content with 12 wins from 18 matches, including a pair of semifinals after two and half months of the season. But by Medvedev’s standards, that’s not sufficient. His title drought nears two years. He hasn’t made a final in over a year. Munar is flourishing on hard courts in the first quarter of 2025. He’s already reached two semifinals and earned two Top 20 scalps. With the threat of a Top 10 exit looming large, Medvedev must prove his mettle. Expect him to get things in order here.

Prediction: Medvedev in 2

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke – USA TODAY Sports

Former champion Daniil Medvedev gets his 2025 ATP Miami Open campaign underway on Friday.
