So far in 2025, Boulter seems to be in slightly better form, but there is very little to choose between the pair. This should be a very tight match, as was their first meeting in Austin back in 2023, decided by who holds their nerve and excutes better on key points.
Prediction: Boulter in 3

Tyra Caterina Grant vs Julia Grabher

Head-to-head: first meeting

A very rare matchup between two players outside the top 370 at WTA 1000 level. That said, Grant seems to have far more upside at the moment and should rise up the rankings quickly this year. Grabher is on a six -atch losing streak and under normal circumstances that should continue here, with Grant getting a maiden match win a this level.
Prediction: Grant in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Bernarda Pera

Head-to-head: first meeting

Another matchup between two very evenly matched players, both in terms of ranking and level of play. The lack of previous head-to-head matchups make this match even harder to call. Pera made it through qualifying here in Miami and that extra confident and momentum could well make the different in her favour here.
Prediction: Pera in 3

Viktoria Azarenka vs Anhelina Kalinina

Head-to-head: Azarenka 2-0 Kalinina

While Azarenka is far from the level that saw her win three Miami titles in the past, she is still a very good player who can be a threat at any given tournament and she should have a bit of an edge in this matchup. She won a very tight three setter when their pair faced last month in Dubai and a similarly close battle might well be on the cards here.
Prediction: Azarenka in 3

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

Day 2 at the WTA 1000 event in Miami will feature the conclusion of the first round; while the seeds won’t be in action yet, there is sure to be plenty of high level action with some great players including former Grand Slam champion and three time Miami champion Viktoria Azarenka.
