This article features the recently crowned Qatar Open champion, Amanda Anisimova, who will take on the red-hot Belinda Bencic. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But who will advance at WTA Indian Wells?

WTA Indian Wells Day 4 Predictions

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Polina Kudermetova

Head-to-Head: Alexandrova 1-0 Kudermetova

Ekaterina Alexandrova has been in great form since the Australian Open, winning a title and two top-five wins. She has a very high ceiling; if she fires, she can cause damage anywhere. Alexandrova hasn’t won a match in Indian Wells in her last two appearances and will hope to break that streak against Polina Kudermetova, who has gone cold after a great start to the season. Kudermetova played a solid match in the first round, which should give some confidence. However, her first-round opponent was ranked outside the top 200, while Alexandrova is a top 20 player. The difference is huge, and I’m not confident backing Kudermetov, given her recent performance.

Prediction: Alexandrova in 3

Liudmila Samsonova vs Caty McNally

Head-to-Head: first meeting

When Liudmila Samsonova defeated Belinda Bencic and Emma Navarro in Adelaide, it appeared like she was regaining her form, but it has been downhill since. She hasn’t won consecutive matches in any of her last four tournaments, and Indian Wells has never been a successful tournament. She is on a two-match opening-round losing streak but has a decent matchup this time to break it. Caty McNally got her first main draw win since 2023 as her first-round opponent, Ajla Tomljanovic, had to retire in the second set due to a shoulder injury. It was her first win in Indian Wells, and she would have to play out of her skin and hope that Samsonova has an off day to get her second win here.

Prediction: Samsonova in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Donna Vekic vs Elina Avanesyan

Head-to-Head:

Donna Vekic has not won a single match in any tournament outside the Australian Open this season, and her record in Indian Wells is equally horrible. She has never been past the second round here in nine main-draw appearances and is on a five-match losing streak. On the other hand, Elina Avanesyan is playing some of the best tennis of her career and these courts suit her game. She should have enough to hold off Vekic.

Prediction: Avanesyan in 3

Amanda Anisimova vs Belinda Bencic

Head-to-Head: Anisimova 2-1 Bencic

This is probably the best second-round match on paper between two exceptional players. Both players are in great form, and it’s a shame that one of them would have to exit this early. Belinda Bencic has won eight of her last 10 matches, while Amanda Anisimova has won seven. Both players have incredible backhands, and it would be a treat for the fans to watch them trade crosscourt backhand shots. Their most recent meeting took place in 2022, and all three of their previous encounters have been one-sided. I believe this would be a close three-setter, with Bencic winning to tie the head-to-head.

Prediction: Bencic in 3

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey – Imagn Images

The top half of matches will be played on Day 4 of the WTA BNP Paribas Open, as the day is stacked with good encounters.
