The draw has also been weakened slightly by four withdrawals, including three American players. Those players and their replacements are named in this article.

Four Players Withdraw From ATP ATP Acapulco Open

Which Players Have Withdrawn?

Taylor Fritz was a late withdrawal from the ATP Mexican Open. The world #4 revealed he has been dealing with an abdominal injury since the week before the tournament in Dallas earlier this month. With the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells coming up next month, it is no surprise that Fritz does not want to risk making the injury any worse. Sebastian Korda was the second player to withdraw from the ATP Mexican Open. Last year’s Citi Open champion returned at the start of this season after missing the final few months of 2024 with an elbow injury. Korda’s last appearance was two weeks ago in Marseille, and whether he had a recurrence of that elbow issue is unknown.

Hubert Hurkacz was the third player to withdraw from the event in Acapulco. The Pole’s most recent appearance was also in Marseille, losing to Zhizhen Zhang in the round of 16. Hurkacz recovered from a knee injury, but there has been no reason given for not playing in Acapulco. Reilly Opelka was the fourth player to remove himself from the ATP Mexican Open entry list. Like Korda and Hurkacz, he did not reveal why he had withdrawn. Instead, he has generated attention for attacking doubles players after the US Open’s controversial decision to radically change its mixed doubles format for this year’s tournament.

Who Replaces Those Players in the Draw?

Rinky Hijikata took Fritz’s place in the ATP Mexican Open draw. The Australian’s style of engaging in long rallies and relying on defense contrasts greatly with Fritz’s powerful serve and groundstrokes. Therefore, the fans in Acapulco will have something different to look forward to.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina benefits from Korda’s decision to withdraw. He came agonizingly close to winning the Delray Beach Open in his last tournament but lost the final from 5-2 40-15 up in the deciding set against Miomir Kecmanovic. Davidovich Fokina took last week off after that heartbreaking defeat, which was understandable and probably wise.

Arthur Rinderknech replaces Hurkacz at the ATP Mexican Open. Although receiving a place in the main draw is good news for the talented Frenchman, he will probably count himself as unlucky after drawing Ruud in the opening round. The seconnd seed finished as the runner-up to Alex de Minaur last year.

Cameron Norrie is the final player to enter the draw due to Opelka electing to withdraw. Norrie has been trying to find his best form again after being injured for some of 2024. He had a decent tournament in Delray Beach in his last appearance, losing in the quarterfinal to Alex Michelsen after getting two good victories in the previous rounds.

Main photo credit: Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

The ATP Acapulco entry list is very strong with world #2 Alexander Zverev and two-time French Open runner-up Casper Ruud are among several top players in the draw at the Mexican Open.
