As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Novak Djokovic vs Matteo Berrettini and Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Hamad Medjedovic. But who will advance?

ATP Doha Day 2 Predictions

Nuno Borges vs Otto Virtanen

Head-to-head: Virtanen 1-0 Borges

Both players enter this week’s ATP Doha tournament in decent touch which should this match a tight contest. Nuno Borges reached the third round of the Australian Open and while he didn’t do much last week at Marseille, the Portuguese looked very competitive. He faces Otto Virtanen who came through qualifying as a lucky loser but did look good from the baseline. Expect a see saw battle with Borges just edging this on the back of his superior variety from the baseline.

Prediction: Borges in 3
Embed from Getty Images

Luca Nardi vs Zhang Zhizhen

Head-to-head: Nardi 1-0 Zhang

Luca Nardi played extremely well in the ATP Doha qualifying and the Italian will be hoping to continue the winning streak. He faces Zhang Zhizhen who is a lot more experienced and the Chinese does look poised for a deep run at a tournament this year. Zhang did retire from the quarterfinals last week and it is yet to be seen if he is fully match fit. If he is, expect Zhang to get the better of Nardi here with his serve yielding him more free points than his opponent.

Prediction: Zhang in 2

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Quentin Halys

Head-to-head: Auger-Aliassime 1-0 Halys

Quentin Halys, after enduring a sub-par start to 2025, managed to string a couple of wins together to come through qualifying but has been dealt a very tough first round. Felix Auger-Aliassime has already won two tournaments this week but the Canadian’s fitness is a doubt after retiring at the last tournament he played in Rotterdam. If the Canadian is match fit, expect him to dominate with his serve and booming groundtrokes.

Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 2
Embed from Getty Images

Daniil Medvedev vs Karen Khachanov

Head-to-head: Medvedev 5-2 Khachanov

Both players enter this match with very little by way of form or consistency. Karen Khachanov lost in the first round in Marseille last week and he now faces a player who seems to have his number. But Daniil Medvedev will be kicking himself with the results he’s had thus far in 2025 on his favourite surface. Perhaps what will work for him is that his game is the perfect match up against Khachanov who fill find it extremely tough to hit through Medvedev. With neither man playing well it may be close, but Medvedev should win this all Russian battle.

Prediction: Medvedev in 3

Main photo credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

The action continues on day two at ATP Doha with 11 intriguing matches on the slate at the Qatar Open.
