One of the biggest names in action will be Jelena Ostapenko, who made the headlines last week by going 5-0 up in her head-to-head matchup with Iga Swiatek, but there will be plenty of other interesting names and matches as well.

WTA Dubai Day 2 Predictions

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Anastasia Potapova

Head-to-head: first meeting

On paper, it’s one of the most interesting matches of the day. Haddad Maia is the higher ranked player of the two, but Potapova is fresh off a fantastic title run in Cluj and is generally more comfortable on this surface. All things considered, it should be a very tight matched decided by who can hold their nerve and execute better in key junctures.
Prediction: Potapova in 3

Rebecca Sramkova vs Clara Tauson

Head-to-head: Tauson 2-1 Sramkova

The two players are very close to each other in both ranking and level of play, so this shoudl be a very evenly matched contest. Both have been playing some excellent tennis so far in 2025 too, making this an even more difficult match to pick. Tauson has been particularly impressive, though, even winning a title in Auckland and should have the slight edge going in.
Prediction: Tauson in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Veronika Kudermetova

Head-to-head: Alexandrova 4-2 Kudermetova

Alexandrova won the last four matches between the two and has definitely established as the better, more consistent player overall in recent years. While Kudermetova definitely has the ability to beat Alexandrova, it is the latter who has a very clear edge going it and should advance to the second round if they play at their normal levels.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Moyuka Uchijima vs Jelena Ostapenko

Head-to-head: first meeting

Ostapenko had a fantastic week in Doha, capped off by her fifth win in five matches against Iga Swiatek, but it ended in disappointment with a meek performance and defeat in the final. She will be looking to go one better this tournament and on paper she has a very kind first round draw and should be able to advance here.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 2

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Day 2 at the WTA 1000 event in Dubai won’t feature the top seeds yet, but it is sure to be a day full of top quality action and exciting matches.
