Both women hope to win a first WTA 1000 tournament. We at LWOT predict the outcome of the final in this article, but which woman do you think will win the title?

WTA Doha Final Prediction

Amanda Anisimova vs Jelena Ostapenko

Head-to-head: Ostapenko 1-0 Anisimova

Ostapenko’s level has indisputably been the best in the tournament so far. She hammered Iga Swiatek in the semifinal and has yet to drop a set. However, Anisimova’s performances have come close to matching the Latvian’s. She beat Victoria Azarenka, Paula Badosa, Leylah Fernandez, Marta Kostyuk, and Ekaterina Alexandrova to reach the final, only dropping one set.

The only previous meeting between these two was in Doha two years ago, where Ostapenko won a tight battle. The dynamics of this matchup are fascinating. Anisimova thrives most when she has time off both wings but deals with much pace into her backhand much better. That means the American might handle the crosscourt backhand rallies much better than Swiatek did, who was rushed throughout her match with Ostapenko.

Anisimova’s serve will also be crucial in this matchup. The conditions in Doha are pretty slow, which makes getting free points with the first serve more challenging. However, it is pivotal that Ansimova finds a way to do that since Ostapenko has been jumping on top of second serves in every match.

Embed from Getty Images

Although Anisimova undoubtedly has a chance if he plays at her best, it is hard to go against Ostapenko right now. Her performances in Doha have been incredible, and the former French Open winner seems focused in a way that she often is not. Ostapenko’s ability to rush Anisimova on her forehand might prove the difference, especially by using her formidable backhand down the line.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 3

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

There will be much powerful hitting between Amanda Anisimova and Jelena Ostapenko in the WTA Doha final.
