On paper, the majority of the matchups are close, and fans can expect some thrilling encounters in Auckland. This article features former semifinalist, Gael Monfils. But who will advance to the second round?<\/p>\n<h2>ATP Auckland Day 2 Predictions<\/h2>\n<h4>Nishesh Basavareddy vs Francisco Comesana<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Head-to-Head<\/strong>: First meeting<\/p>\n<p>After a strong end to the 2024 season, Nishesh Basavareddy has started the new season brilliantly. He completely outplayed Daniel Altmaier in the second round of qualifiers to make the main draw of the ASB Classic. This is the successive main draw appearance for the American player and he will look to get his first tour-level win outside the Next Gen Finals. Francisco Comesana has advanced to the main draw as a lucky loser and is the underdog in this match.<br \/>\n<em>Prediction: Basavareddy in 3<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Lorenzo Sonego vs Gabriel Diallo<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Head-to-Head<\/strong>: First meeting<\/p>\n<p>Lorenzo Sonego is looking to have a more consistent season than the last two seasons and he got an impressive win against Brandon Nakashima in Hong Kong last week. Sonego is playing at this event for the second time and will be looking to get his first win here. Gabriel Diallo made an impressive start to the season himself and has the upside to beat Sonego. Diallo has a brilliant serve and will hope to get as many free points as he can get and put pressure on Sonego&#8217;s serve. Mannarino has lost in the first round in his last three appearances in Auckland but is also a former finalist. I don&#8217;t like Mannarino&#8217;s chances to make a deep run here but he should be good enough to win against Mariano Navone, who has just three tour-level wins on hard courts.<br \/>\n<em>Prediction: Mannarino in 3<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Gael Monfils vs Pedro Martinez<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Head-to-Head<\/strong>: Monfils 1-1 Martinez<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2025\/01\/02\/novak-djokovic-gael-monfils-one-sided-rivalries\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">Gael Monfils lost to Novak Djokovic for the 20th time last week<\/a> in Brisbane. It was a bad draw for the Frenchman and he will look to make a deep run this week and arrive at the Australian Open in the best possible form. Pedro Martinez has caused problems for Monfils in the past but I don&#8217;t have much confidence in him on hard courts.
