Players like Elina Avanesyan and Yue Yuan are coming off solid Brisbane runs, but it&#8217;s still early days and we&#8217;re just getting to know what sort of form the players brought after the off-season. Who do you think will make it to the next stage of the event?<\/p>\n<h2>WTA Hobart Day 1 Predictions<\/h2>\n<h4>Anna Bondar vs Mayar Sherif<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Head-to-head:<\/strong> Sherif 2-1<\/p>\n<p>Mayar Sherif didn&#8217;t grab a single hard-court win last year, but she&#8217;s not focusing on the surface and mostly plays the biggest events. When she had to at the end of the season, she went to South America for a series of WTA 125s on clay, performing extremely well. Anna Bondar is not an opponent that is guaranteed to beat her on hard, but the effectiveness of Sherif&#8217;s topspin forehand is definitely limited here. This could be a spot for her to grab that rare hard-court win.<br \/>\n<em>Prediction: Sherif in 3<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Xiyu Wang vs Elina Avanesyan<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Head-to-head:<\/strong> First meeting<\/p>\n<p>Elina Avanesyan typically isn&#8217;t at her strongest on hard courts, but she&#8217;s coming off a very nice run in Brisbane. The 22-year-old was able to upset Rebecca Sramkova and Paula Badosa before losing to Ons Jabeur in three sets. Meanwhile, Xiyu Wang breezed through the qualifying here. While the ranking of the Chinese has plummeted a bit, she&#8217;s still very dangerous on her day. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro got blown off the court by Elena Rybakina, and suffered a similar beatdown at the hands of Maria Sakkari. Meanwhile, Maria Carle only ended up playing one mixed doubles match and earned an incredible win over the stacked Australian line-up of Ellen Perez and Matthew Ebden. Bouzas Maneiro has a lot more to offer as a ball-striker, but she has to be careful as Carle was able to grind her down on hard courts less than a year ago.<br \/>\n<em>Prediction: Bouzas Maneiro in 2<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Yue Yuan vs Camila Osorio<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Head-to-head:<\/strong> First meeting<\/p>\n<p>Seems like Yue Yuan&#8217;s prime isn&#8217;t over yet after she was able to beat Arantxa Rus and especially Marta Kostyuk in Brisbane. The Chinese can produce overwhelming offense with her forehand and will be looking to dictate the proceedings against Camila Osorio as well. We know how this matchup would likely look on clay, but here it will be tougher for the Colombian to start working her opponent around the court.
