Top seed Aryna Sabalenka stands strong as one of just two seeded players left in the draw. The other, Mirra Andreeva, is set for a blockbuster matchup against 3-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur. Who do you think will make the semifinals?

WTA Brisbane Quarterfinal Predictions

Anhelina Kalinina vs Kimberly Birrell

Head-to-head: First meeting

This is already one of the biggest weeks of Kimberly Birrell’s career and she’s currently on the verge of returning to the Top 100 (her career-high is exactly No. 100). Especially the win over Emma Navarro came as a surprise and she’s facing someone with a relatively similar playstyle in Anhelina Kalinina here. The Ukrainian can be a little erratic generally, but for what it’s worth she’s been firing this week so far and might simply be a little too solid for Birrell’s magical run to continue.
Prediction: Kalinina in 2

Ashlyn Krueger vs Polina Kudermetova

Head-to-head: First meeting

Maybe this can be the year of Ashlyn Krueger. The American didn’t make too much progress in 2024, but with more experience her easy power might prove to be very tough for the rest of the tour to handle. She’s already taken down Anna Kalinskaya this week and dropped just one set in three matches. Polina Kudermetova is another developing youngster that’s often overlooked due to her more accomplished sister. The wins over Daria Kasatkina and Liudmila Samsonova (plus coming from the qualifying) might have taken too much out of her though.
Prediction: Krueger in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Aryna Sabalenka vs Marie Bouzkova

Head-to-head: 1-1

Marie Bouzkova defeated Aryna Sabalenka in Washington last year, just when the Belarusian was coming back from the injury that destroyed her grass season. It wasn’t long until she found her form and just about a month later, she already had the Cincinnati and US Open titles under her belt. It adds intrigue to this matchup and Bouzkova can be a nightmare for power players. But based on how Sabalenka handler herself in the tough moments against Yulia Putintseva in the previous round, she’ll probably find a way to fight through.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2

Ons Jabeur vs Mirra Andreeva

Head-to-head: Andreeva 1-0

Ons Jabeur wasn’t fit when she faced Mirra Andreeva at the Australian Open last year, but it was still an impressive beatdown from the Russian and a performance that showed us some of the issues that Jabeur might be facing in this matchup. She seems back in form though after missing four months at the end of last season. It would be unwise to write her off completely, but it’s the Russian wunderkind who has to be considered at least a slight favorite here.
Prediction: Andreeva in 3

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

Eight players remain in contention for the 2025 WTA Brisbane International singles title.
