This second day will feature many such matches, with a great mix of young players looking to climb up the rankings and veterans looking to climb back up the rankings, including Kei Nishikori vs Denis Shapovalov.

As always, we at LWOT have the preview and predictions for all matches on the ATP Hong Kong slate. But who will advance?

ATP Hong Kong Day 2 Predictions

Zizou Bergs vs Alejandro Moro Canas

Head-to-head: first meeting

Moros Canas had a very nice run through qualifying, but Bergs is generally the better and more consistent player of the two and the one who is more comfortable playing on a hard court. It should be a close match, but all things considered, Bergs should be able to come through and keep slowly but steadily climbing up the rankings this year.

Prediction: Bergs in 3

Jaume Munar vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina

Head-to-head: Dadidovich Fokina 2-1 Munar

Although the two players are separated by only one ranking spot, Fokina clearly has the higher potential of the two despite a disappointing 2024. He will be looking to do much better in 2025, and in this matchup on a hard court, he should have far too much firepower for Munar to handle. He will undoubtedly be dictating rallies for most of the match and deciding the outcome through his winners or errors.

Prediction: Dadidovich Fokina in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Francesco Passaro vs Pedro Martinez

Head-to-head: Martinez 2-1 Passaro

Although Martinez leads the head-to-head 2-1, his two wins came on clay, while Passaro won with relative ease in the Australian Open qualifying last year. Although Martinez had an excellent 2024 and has got his ranking up to No. 43 in the world, on a hard court Passaro has an excellent chance to notch another win in this matchup.

Prediction: Passaro in 3

Kei Nishikori vs Denis Shapovalov

Head-to-head: Nishikori 1-1 Shapovalov

This is arguably the tastiest matchup of the day. However, for different reasons, both players have been far from their best for a while. They ended 2024 on a strong note, with Shapovalov winning the title in Belgrade and Nishikori winning a challenger event in Helsinki. Both players are sure to be confident of a strong 2025, and a win here would be the perfect start to that endeavor. It should be a close match, one that could genuinely go either way.

Prediction: Nishikori in 3

Main Photo Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea – USA TODAY Sports

This week’s ATP event in Hong Kong isn’t as strong as Brisbane on paper, but it is a very balanced draw that will produce plenty of tight and exciting matches.
