Predicting these matches are Damian Kust, Jordan Reynolds, and Manuel Traquete. Who do you think will win?

Wimbledon Day 2 Predictions

Leylah Fernandez vs Lucia Bronzetti

Damian:
Fernandez will need to try to avoid a hiccup after her big run last week, but the good thing for her is that Bronzetti isn’t particularly dangerous. You know what you’re gonna get from her and if you’re a creative player like the Canadian, you should be ready.
Prediction: Fernandez in 2

Jordan:
Fernandez comes into this contest after a run to the final in Eastbourne. The Canadian still needs to be wary of Bronzetti, who strikes the ball very cleanly at her best. I think Fernandez will win, but it could be a tight battle.
Prediction: Fernandez in 3

Manuel:
Fernandez had a great run in Eastbourne and seems ready to finally start delivering on the promise shown at the 2021 US Open. Bronzetti isn’t an easy first round opponent here, but Fernandez should still pull through.
Prediction: Fernandez in 3

[tgdcta items=”1″ id=”170472″]

Kateryna Baindl vs Laura Siegemund

Damian:
Of the two veterans it’s Siegemund who seems like a more interesting proposition. She’s got the volley game to wrap up points on grass and just overall she’s probably more potent with her weapons, but also a lot more unpredictable.
Prediction: Siegemund in 2

Jordan:
This is a great opportunity for both players. Siegemund only has won previous victory to her name at Wimbledon, while Baindl has lost all five of her matches at SW19. Yet, I am backing Baindl to break that streak against the German. Her game is capable of disrupting 36-year-old Siegemund, who may focus more on the doubles due to her record in singles at the event.
Prediction: Baindl in 2

Manuel:
Siegemund comes into this tournament on a three-match losing streak, but on paper she got a pretty fortunate draw here against the World #175 and she should be able to make it to the second round.
Prediction: Siegemund in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Jule Niemeier vs Viktorija Golubic

Damian:
That’s pretty spicy with two former quarterfinalists. It’s the big game of Niemeier which can probably shine in this matchup if she delivers on the day. You gotta put pressure on Golubic on this surface and she’s got the arsenal to take time away.
Prediction: Niemeier in 3

[tgdcta items=”1″ id=”170476″]

Jordan:
This is an interesting matchup between two former quarterfinalists at Wimbledon. Niemeier showed her ability on grass a few days ago in Bad Homburg with a victory against Maria Sakkari. But I am backing Golubic to prevail here. The combination of her forehand and effective slice backhand is capable of disrupting Niemeier’s powerful game.
Prediction: Golubic in 3

Manuel:
It should be a very tight match. Both players have played a lot on grass so far this year and have had similar not very successful results. Both are unlikely to have significant runs here, but this should still be a very entertaining first round.
Prediction: Niemeier in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Elena Rybakina vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse

Damian:
Ruse had one of her early breakthroughs at Wimbledon when she pushed Radwanska in 2018 and many years later it’s mostly all the injuries that didn’t allow her to fulfill that potential. Rybakina will need to be sharp from the get-go. On grass, she probably can do it.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2

Jordan:
Rybakina did not play in Eastbourne as a precaution before Wimbledon, but it seems like she is okay now and physically ready. The 2022 champion should be comfortable against Ruse, who plays her best tennis on clay. Rybakina to progress in two sets.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2

[tgdcta items=”1″ id=”180848″]

Manuel:
Rybakina is a former champion at this event and one of the favorites to win it this year as well. Against a qualifier, she shouldn’t have much trouble advancing here and she should be able to make it to the late stages and compete for another title here.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2

Main Photo Credit: Peter van den Berg-USA TODAY Sports

Day 2 of Wimbledon brings a full half of the women’s first round–32 matches in all.
