Federer has only once lost in an Australian Open final and the 36-year-old is looking likely to win his 20th career Grand Slam on Sunday night when he takes on the 6th seed, Marin Cilic.

Federer came out strongly and aggressively on return. As a result, Chung struggled on serve, failing to hold at all in the opening set. The Swiss showed his class and experience as he captured the first set 6-1.

The struggles on serve continued into the second set as Federer ramped up the pressure on the 21-year-old’s service games. Chung went down an early break and could not recover. The South Korean had troubles with his movement and took a medical timeout to receive treatment for blisters on his feet at 4-1 down. This injury proved to be too much for Chung to over come as the youngster retired at 5-2 in the second set.

Expect to see a lot more of Chung in the future, with many experts predicting the up-and-comer to have a very successful career in the world of tennis. Roger Federer will now turn his attention on the Australian Open final, where the Swiss maestro will play Marin Cilic. Federer will go into the match feeling confident having notched a straight sets win over the Croatian at last year’s Wimbledon final.

Main Image:

Embed from Getty Images

Roger Federer has secured a spot in his 6th Australian Open final after his 6-1, 5-2 (ret.) win over South Korean, Hyeon Chung.
