Day 4 at the WTA Finals in Cancun will feature matchday 2 of the Chetumal group, with the two winners of matchday 1, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, facing off with a win ensuring advancement to the semifinals–and the two losers of matchday 1, Marketa Vondrousova and Ons Jabeur, facing elimination in case of another loss. Head-to-head:<\/strong> Vondrousova 4-2 Jabeur<\/p>\n This will be a repeat of the Wimbledon<\/a> final; back then, Jabeur was considered the favorite to claim her maiden Slam title, but a very disappointing performance saw her lose meekly and it was Vondrousova who won her maiden Slam in Center Court. Four months later, Vondrousova is the favorite, especially considering Jabeur’s disastrous matchday 1 performance against Coco Gauff where she only won one game and 28 points all match. Vondrousova, on the other hand, played at a very good level for a while against Iga Swiatek and should at least have won the first set, which she led 5-2 with a double break lead. While she completely lost the plot after that, the level of tennis she’s showed here in Cancun is certainly above what Jabeur showed against Gauff. [cta id=4013 type=cta]<\/p>\n Head-to-head:<\/strong> Swiatek 8-1 Gauff<\/p>\n It looked like Gauff might have somewhat solved her Swiatek problem in Cincinnatti, but she was once again routined as usual in Beijing. This has so far been an extremely one-sided matchup; as well as Gauff played against Jabeur in the first match, Swiatek is the most dominant player on tour, she likes this matchup and she’s still desperately in the hunt for world #1<\/a>. It will take a herculean effort from Gauff to claim a second win in this matchup here, although ultimately both players should qualify for the semifinals under normal circumstances.
