Day 1 will see a lot of American players in action, as well as some high ranked players like World #15 Belinda Bencic. It should be a day filled with tight and exciting matches. We also predict the rest of the day&#8217;s matches <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/2023\/09\/10\/wta-san-diego-day-1-predictions-kalinina-pliskova\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">in a separate article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>WTA San Diego Day 1 Predictions<\/h2>\n<h4>Alycia Parks vs Anastasia Potapova<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Head-to-head:<\/strong> first meeting<\/p>\n<p>Both players lost in the first round of the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/tennis\/us-open\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_self\">US Open<\/a> and will be looking to make amends for that here in San Diego. It should be a very tight and exciting match between two young 22-year-old players who still seem to be rising and climbing up the rankings. It should be a very tight match, with fine details deciding the outcome. At this point in their respective careers, Volynets should theoretically have the edge as the older and more experienced player of the two. Ngounoue&#8217;s time will surely come in the future, but at this point she most likely doesn&#8217;t have what it takes to make serious at WTA main tour level events.<br \/>\n<strong>Head-to-head:<\/strong> Volynets in 2<\/p>\n<p>[cta id=4014 type=cta]<\/p>\n<h4>Belinda Bencic vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Head-to-head:<\/strong> Bencic 1-1 Sasnovich<\/p>\n<p>The previous two matchups between the pair were split, but Bencic has improved considerably and is arguably in the best moment of her career, certainly in terms of consistent performances.
