The matchup between Cornet vs Golubic was also postponed, and Bronzetti vs Zidansek will also resume later in the afternoon. On top of that, three exciting new matches will be played out Wednesday, with competitors striving to reach the quarterfinals. Who will battle the altitude of Switzerland and win on the clay?

WTA Day 3 Lausanne Predictions

Elina Avanesyan vs Chloe Paquet

Head-to-head: First meeting

There is so much upside to Avanesyan’s game, with her consistency and high percentage first serve easing her through matches. She’s already had a solid summer clay swing, and of course, comes off a stunning Roland Garros run. Paquet hasn’t been in great form this year but seems to be heading in the right direction after qualifying for this event. With multiple wins on her belt already, the Frenchwoman will make this tough. Avanesyan should be able to get through, however. She’s still relatively new to the WTA tour, and in fact is yet to make a WTA tour-level quarterfinal in her career. This should be a great opportunity for her to do so, and potentially break through even further.
Prediction: Avanesyan in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Elisabetta Cocciaretto vs Julia Riera

Head-to-head: First meeting

Based on ranking, it would make more sense to assume the second seed Cociarreto would win more easily in the first round, but that was absolutely not the case. The Italian struggled against the home favorite Celine Naef, a 17-year-old now familiar with her recent win over Venus Williams. Meanwhile, Riera went on a tear in her first round, losing just three games to Patricia Tig. Cocciaretto surely will feel more comfortable in this one, not having to face a home favorite. She’ll have to up her game, and especially convert break points against a clay-court specialist lacking offense.
Prediction: Cocciaretto in 2

[cta id=445 type=cta]

Mirra Andreeva vs Anna Bondar

Head-to-head: First meeting

Andreeva has kept her cool amid some increasing hype centered around the 16-year-old. Much of this is good hype, with Andreeva picking up fans and becoming a fan favorite on the practice courts. She’s also expressed her openness to liking the attention. Despite her shy personality, she’s enjoyed having Netflix cameras and high-profile attention centered on her talented game. Meanwhile, this event is a great opportunity for Andreeva to take the next big step in her game, winning a WTA title. She’s yet to go deep in any WTA tournament due to her youth, and this is a great opportunity to at least make a WTA final. Bondar did look solid in her first-round match, losing four games. Yet, this is a big step up for the Hungarian, and Andreeva will be motivated to keep up her momentum dating back to the spring.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Main Photo Credit: Susan Mullane-USA TODAY Sports

After a plethora of matches were completed on Tuesday, rain interrupted the last bit of WTA action in Lausanne.
