With a whopping eleven matches on the schedule, LWOS writers give their two-sense as to who could make an exciting run in Switzerland. Who do you think will make it through?

WTA Lausanne Day 2 Predictions

Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Susan Bandecchi

Head-to-head: First meeting

A hometown hero, Bandecchi made tennis news when she claimed the 2021 Lausanne Open doubles title with Simone Waltert. It was a surprising run, one that heralded her as a potential new Swiss threat in tennis. Ever since then, her game has plateaued at a solid top 200 level, and she’ll certainly want to snatch a big win this tournament. Sorribes Tormo continues her reputation as one of the best grinders on tour, endlessly stretching out matches and forcing errors. With Bandecchi’s inexperience at the WTA tour level, the Spaniard has to be the favorite.
Prediction: Sorribes Tormo in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Olga Danilovic vs Clara Burel

Head-to-head: Burel 1-0

An interesting matchup on paper; Burel has the higher ranking, but Danilovic has been in much better form as of late. Danilovic took home silverware at a WTA 125K recently and also made the final of this tournament last year. With her great form maintaining itself, the next couple months will be a great opportunity for the Serb to reach a career-high ranking, and continue a push into the WTA Top 50. Burel has had a solid, yet unspectacular season, so Danilovic’s good form should get her through.
Prediction: Danilovic in 2

[cta id=591 type=cta]

Chloe Paquet vs Reka-Luca Jani

Head-to-head: 1-1

Proved by their deadlocked head-to-head, both players know how to succeed in this matchup. Both competitors like the clay, and they also haven’t been able to make much of a run in a WTA tournament. Similarly, the two haven’t been able to replicate their positive breakthroughs in 2022, making this match frankly a 50-50 pick. Giving the edge to Paquet, who just has a slight edge as far as experience goes.
Prediction: Paquet in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Diane Parry vs Fiona Ferro

Head-to-head: Ferro 2-0

An all-French affair highlights Day 2, with both Parry and Ferro well acclimated to the red clay courts. Parry has a great slice backhand and a general sense of variety on the court. Ferro has a much more solid and topspin-based game, so it’ll be interesting to see how the two game styles contrast. Ferro knows how to win this matchup, evident in the head-to-head, but Parry has had a better season so far. Giving the edge to Parry, as her defensive style may force tons of unforced errors given Ferro’s inconsistency woes.
Prediction: Parry in 3

Main Photo Credit: Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

The majority of Round 1 WTA action will take place in Lausanne on Tuesday, as multiple top seeds make their debut.
