Predicting this set of matches are Jack Edward, Jakub Bobro, and Jordan Reynolds. Who do you think will advance?

Wimbledon Day 2 Women’s Predictions

Karolina Pliskova vs Natalija Stevanovic

Jack:
Underestimate Karolina Pliskova at your peril on a grass court. Many will dismiss the Czech due to her questionable form of late but she still has the serve and flat strokes to boss most opponents on this surface. Natalija Stevanovic will put up a good fight but I’m trusting in the former world #1’s game on grass.
Prediction: Pliskova in 3

Jakub:
Pliskova is a dangerous lower-16 seed, likely matching up with Petra Kvitova in the third round. Kostic came through qualifying but Pliskova is a step above.
Prediction: Pliskova in 2

Jordan:
Two Grand Slam finals and at least a semifinal at all four Slams mean Plíšková is one of the best players to have never won a Slam. But the last couple of years have been more difficult, and she hasn’t reached a WTA final in two years. But I am near certain she will be too good for Stevanovic, who is ranked outside the Top 200.
Prediction: Pliskova in 2

[cta id=4014 type=cta]

Mirra Andreeva vs Xiyu Wang

Jack:
When does the Mirra Andreeva train slow down? She dismissed most of her opponents in qualifying and is now into the main draw against Xiyu Wang. The lefty from China will give Andreeva a real test but I think her serve and mentality are strong enough to get her through this one.
Prediction: Andreeva in 3

Jakub:
Andreeva said that she came into her first Wimbledon qualifying with no expectations. She ended up performing well and coming through, beating Tamara Korpatsch in the final round. There’s no reason why this run cannot continue.
Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Jordan:
16-year-old Mirra Andreeva is an incredibly exciting talent, and watching her will be very fun after she came through qualifying. Her opponent Wang is a full six years older despite being just 22. She has not found much form on grass in the run up to Wimbledon. My gut feeling is the 16-year-old will create headlines again as she did at Roland Garros.
Prediction: Andreeva in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Nuria Parrizas-Diaz vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich

Jack:
Nuria Parrizas-Diaz doesn’t have much of a game for grass and only just made the cut for the main draw at Wimbledon. A player of Aliaksandra Sasnovich’s quality should be able to win this one without too much of a fuss.
Prediction: Sasnovich in 2

Jakub:
Sasnovich has been very inconsistent but her game suits grass a lot more than Parrizas-Diaz. The Spaniard has the consistency to take advantage if Sasnovich is misfiring but the Belarusian has to be the favorite for me.
Prediction: Sasnovich in 3

Jordan:
Sasnovich has a fourth round and a third round appearance at Wimbledon to her name. In addition she reached the semifinals in Hertogenbosch a few weeks ago. Her opponent has no wins to her name at Wimbledon and also hasn’t won any matches in the run up to Wimbledon. I struggle to see how she overcomes the Belarusian.
Prediction: Sasnovich in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Maria Sakkari vs Marta Kostyuk

Jack:
This could be a dangerous match for Maria Sakkari. Marta Kostyuk will enjoy the fast conditions and won’t be afraid to really take the match to the Greek. Sakkari has weapons on every surface but she could be overpowered if she’s feeling a little tentative on day one. I’m not backing the upset due to Kostyuk’s record against top players but I think it’ll be close.
Prediction: Sakkari in 3

Jakub:
Sakkari gets a tricky opponent in the first round here, never making it past the third round at Wimbledon. Kostyuk will certainly push the Greek but this match can go either way.
Prediction: Sakkari in 3

Jordan:
Sakkari has previously said grass is the surface she is least comfortable on. But she has shown signs of promise, with three third round appearances at Wimbledon, and a recent semifinal in Berlin. Kostyuk does represent potentially tricky opposition having gotten past the first round in both previous appearances at Wimbledon, but I don’t think she will have enough against Sakkari.
Prediction: Sakkari in 2

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey-USA TODAY Sports

On Tuesday, Day 2 of the Wimbledon Championships, we will complete both the men’s and women’s first rounds.
