Predicting this set of matches are Jack Edward, Jakub Bobro, and Jordan Reynolds. Who do you think will advance?

Wimbledon Day 2 Women’s Predictions

Sonay Kartal vs Madison Keys

Jack:
Sonay Kartal will be happy with the level she’s brought to this grass season. It’s not likely to amount to much, though, as Madison Keys with this kind of momentum will probably overwhelm the Brit.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Jakub:
Keys opens against British wild card Sonay Kartal. The American’s big game has massive potential on grass but if he’s off on the day, Kartal might have a chance.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Jordan:
Keys’ win in Eastbourne just before Wimbledon demonstrates her grass court prowess. With a Wimbledon quarterfinal and at least one semifinal at the other Slams to her name, she’s one of the best players not to have won a Slam along with Ons Jabeur. Is this her time? She should start comfortably against wild card Kartal, who has yet to win a Grand Slam match.
Prediction: Keys in 2

[cta id=4013 type=cta]

Viktorija Golubic vs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova

Jack:
There’s not likely to be much between Viktorija Golubic and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. Schmiedlova hits a big ball but my pick only just goes to Golubic. The Swiss has a beautiful slice and has warmed up having taken her route through qualifying.
Prediction: Golubic in 3

Jakub:
Golubic is one of the most dangerous qualifiers with a brilliant grass game. Schmiedlova is primarily a defensive player; Golubic should be winning here.
Prediction: Golubic in 2

Jordan:
Two players of not dissimilar rankings but wildly differing fortunes at Wimbledon. Golubic is a quarterfinalist at SW19 and eight of her nine brand slam wins have come at the championships. By contrast Schmiedlova has only managed one win in seven appearances at the same event, and it is her weakest Slam by far. I’m going with history on this one.
Prediction: Golubic in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Emma Navarro

Jack:
Emma Navarro has impressed this grass season and is surely on a steady upward trajectory. She plays a powerful game, however, and Ekaterina Alexandrova’s flat strokes and huge serve trump the American’s arsenal.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Jakub:
Navarro has proven to be a surprisingly good grass courter during the lead up events. Alexandrova is still a favorite in my eyes but may have some trouble here.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 3

Jordan:
Alexandrova may be a dark horse at The Championships. Although she hasn’t been past the second round before, she won in Hertogenbosch a few weeks ago, defending her title from last year and then reached a semifinal in Berlin. She will be too good for opponent, who is making her first appearance at Wimbledon.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Embed from Getty Images

Ons Jabeur vs Magdalena Frech

Jack:
If Ons Jabeur can get on a roll, she could be difficult to stop. Her first few rounds at Wimbledon are likely to be shaky but Magdalena Frech will afford Jabeur the time to get acquainted with the conditions. The Tunisian will be thankful for a fairly comfortable first round.
Prediction: Jabeur in 3

Jakub:
Jabeur gets an early tough test here against Frech and has been drawn in the hardest quarter of the draw. The Pole is certainly capable of winning this match but Jabeur should win out.
Prediction: Jabeur in 3

Jordan:
Last year’s runner up lost early in both her grass court tournaments leading up to Wimbledon, and overall hasn’t reached the heights of 2022 throughout the season. Frech has outperformed Jabeur on grass in the last few weeks, reaching two quarterfinals and also made the third round at SW19 last year. I’ll back Jabeur but this could be tight.
Prediction: Jabeur in 3

Main Photo Credit: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

On Tuesday, Day 2 of the Wimbledon Championships, we will complete both the men’s and women’s first rounds.
